Sure, but in that game, characters at least ACTED like you were there, looked at the camera and everything. BL3 has no such aknowledgement

Sure, the first game was nothing but shooty fun, but Borderlands 2 had unexpected depth in Handsome Jack's character. Despite him being established as a despicable villain, he had hidden layers of a hero that the Pre-Sequel explored further. In this game, there's no depth at all other than the basics; bad guys bad because evil and stuff, good guys
