The original name implied vital compounds (Vita) containing amino groups (amins), but plenty of vitamins are not amins, and don't contain nitrogen.

Not really a berry. Neither are plenty other fruits, but bananas ARE berries. It's complicated.

Any theory, really, but this one's the usual case. *Theory* does not mean it's a guess, it means it's a model supported by evidence and it has predictive value.

prostaglandin was believed to be a hormone secreted by the prostate because it was found in human semen; factually it is secreted by every cell inthe body of animals and therefore it is not a hormone
