When the title already emanates misery, you know it isn't going to end well. This is the quintessential tale of tragedy, adapted from Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, very few primary characters from this show make it out alive in the end.

We begin with a rare occurrence in theatre, with the ultimate tragedy of the story being described in the very opening; we are transported back in time to the births of fraternal twins Mickey and Eddie, with the former raised by working class Mrs. Johnstone & the latter with wealthy Mrs Lyons.
