When it comes to Twilight, Stephanie Meyer herself states she "never writes messages". Meaning ultimately, Twilight is little more than eye-candy without any trace of substance to it's core.
As well as that, Edward is criticised for the sheer lack of depth to his character, creepy stalking tendencies, and essentially being a Marty Sue for his oh so "perfect tendencies".
It is the mark of a good writer to be able to engage an audience with all aspects of what their characters go through on a day-to-day basis, and present everybody as more than just a bunch of one-note archetypes. The tone of a good series must always be transparent enough that when, say somebody like Xander, who is known for being the comic relief
Not only is Buffy the most studied subject in pop culture but according to a study conducted by Slate, there are actually twice as many of these courses - as well as conferences and academic papers - as there are for any other item in the said field!

One thing that is never absent from Twilight haters list of reasons as to why they detest the franchise, is the way it depicts the main protagonist as a overly-reliant on her boyfriend to be happy. Phrase it any way you like, this inherently misogynistic and absolutely reeks of the image of a subservient 1950's housewife.
When people look towards Twilight's cast members over the course of 5 films, the only three names that truly stick out to casual audiences are Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and unsurprisingly, Welsh actor Michael Sheen. The latter of whom is arguably the only positive thing about the franchise.
