Hardy's delivery was terrible. He focused too much on creating the voice instead of inflecting with the character. He was also way too goofy to be taken seriously.

Yeah, he kills a main character and all, but after he gets his power, he stops being interesting and turns into a whiney prima donna. Everyone seems to forget that about him.
