You know the stats: he was the first NHLer to score 50 goals in 50 games, the first to reach 500 career goals, he won eight Stanley Cups, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame just one year after he retired. He was also one of the most electrifying players to ever grace the ice. Not only that, but Maurice "The Rocket" Richard was a symbol for the people in his home province of Quebec – not just a symbol of hockey but of political change.
