Another Top 10 Celebrity Friends

Another Top 10 Celebrity Friends
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton
Script written by Nick Spake

There's nothing like friendship amongst celebrities. Yes, despite Hollywood festering with egos and backstabbers, there's still some famous people who enjoy the company of a buddy. And not just to sell movies or heighten their fame, these are genuine friendships that have lasted through the years!

#10: Salma Hayek & Penélope Cruz

Two of the world’s favorite Spanish-speaking actresses, Salma Hayek and Penélope Cruz have surprisingly only co-starred in one movie: 2006’s “Bandidas.” Nevertheless, their real life friendship is truly a thing of beauty. Both have made numerous appearances together and regularly support each other’s careers. Hayek just couldn’t contain her excitement when Cruz earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance in “Volver.” The two aren’t afraid to playfully tease one another either, like when Cruz teamed up with Ashton Kutcher to punk Hayek. In January 2017, Hayek and Cruz immortalized their enduring friendship with a couple selfies, complete with the caption, “Good #friends are forever Los buenos #amigos son para siempre.”

#9: Jared Padalecki & Jensen Ackles

Egos tend to clash when two actors co-star on a long-running television series. This hasn’t been the case for Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, though. Best known for playing Sam and Dean Winchester on “Supernatural,” the dynamic between these two has kept the seasons’-deep fantasy/horror drama fresh and fun. In addition to sharing a brotherly bond in front of the camera, Padalecki and Ackles have wonderful chemistry off-screen as well. The duo lived together for a period during their bachelor days and later acted as groomsmen in each other’s weddings. If you want further evidence of their bromance, just look at any of their photos together online.

#8: Matthew McConaughey & Woody Harrelson

These guys both popped up in 1999’s “EDtv” and 2008’s “Surfer, Dude.” Of course their most iconic appearance together would have to be in HBO’s “True Detective.” Although detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart shared a complicated relationship throughout the series, McConaughey and Harrelson remained airtight, airtight, airtight. It’s not at all shocking that these two get along so well, as they have a great deal in common. Both are Texas natives, both appear very chill in public, and both are … advocates... for marijuana. Plus, Harrelson does a dead-on McConaughey impression, so bonus!

#7: Ryan Reynolds & Jake Gyllenhaal

After officially meeting while filming the 2017 sci-fi thriller, “Life,” it didn’t take long for a bromance to bloom between the two. And now it feels like Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal have been friends for eons. Both had a ball on the set of the movie and the fun didn’t stop there, as they continued to crack each other up in interviews. Gyllenhaal even face-timed with his new BFF on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” You can’t help but wonder if Deadpool will make a “Brokeback Mountain” joke in the foreseeable future. In any case, this looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

#6: Paul Rudd & Jason Segel

Top 10 Paul Rudd Performances

They made out on “Saturday Night Live,” but otherwise Paul Rudd and Jason Segel have a strictly platonic friendship. But since both are frat Pack-ers, these two were bound to make a few movies together. On the heels of 2007’s “Knocked Up,” Rudd and Segel continued to cross paths in comedies like “This Is the End,” “This is 40,” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” They most notably co-starred in 2009’s “I Love You, Man,” which explored the phenomenon of guy love. Since Rudd and Segel get along so well in real life, their onscreen chemistry is 100% genuine. They’re the kind of dudes you’d like to hang out with, especially at a Rush concert.

#5: Natalie Portman & Rashida Jones

Compared to some of the other duos on this list, the friendship between Natalie Portman and Rashida Jones is somewhat low-key. Regardless, it’s clear that these two Harvard graduates share an unbreakable connection. Both actresses have bonded over their love of cuddly animals in a series of “Funny or Die” videos. Since Portman kissed another woman in “Black Swan,” she was able to give Jones some advice for her lesbian love scene in “Our Idiot Brother.” Portman in particular has had nothing but kind words for Jones, describing her as “the kind of friend who can sub in and love you through the times when you can't necessarily love yourself."

#4: Emma Stone & Brie Larson

Top 5 Emma Stone Red Carpet Moments

On the silver screen, Emma Stone and Brie Larson have both acted as love interests for Jonah Hill. Of course the parallels don’t end there. Stone and Larson’s friendship was a highlight throughout the 2017 award season. The two were repeatedly seen talking together, sharing drinks, and hugging it out. It’s only fitting that these two BFFs would win the Academy Award for Best Actress within one year of each other. Larson was overjoyed when Stone received her Oscar, posting, “You know what's better than winning? Watching your friends win.” Stone is also a friend of Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, making for a triangle of gifted gal pals.

#3: Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet

This pair hit it off on the set of 1997’s “Titanic” where Kate flashed Leo early on in order to – ahem – break the ice. That film went on to become the biggest blockbuster of its time, not to mention a love story for the ages. They played star-crossed lovers once again in 2008’s “Revolutionary Road,” although DiCaprio and Winslet have never actually been romantically involved in real life. Yet, their friendship goes on. The two frequently praise each other’s work and show support for one another at award shows. Nowhere was this more apparent than at the Golden Globe Awards in 2009, when Kate thanked Leo for being such a loving friend all these years.

#2: Simon Pegg & Nick Frost

These English comedians initially started to bond when Simon Pegg imitated a droid from “Star Wars.” Nick Frost was the only person in the room that got the reference, marking the beginning of a wonderful rapport. Quickly blossoming into best friends, the two became flatmates and Frost was even the best man at Pegg’s wedding. In addition to sci-fi, Pegg and Frost were brought together through their mutual love of comedy. Over the years, they’ve collaborated on several projects, including “Spaced,” “Paul,” and the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. Whether it’s a zombie outbreak, an epic shootout, or an alien invasion, these are two friends we’d definitely want in our corner. Before we get to our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Aziz Ansari & Eric Wareheim - Taylor Swift & Selena Gomez - Kate Hudson & Liv Tyler

#1: George Clooney & Brad Pitt

Top 10 George & Amal Clooney Red Carpet Looks

If the government were made up of Hollywood royalty, George Clooney would hold the Oval Office. And President Clooney wouldn’t hesitate to make bestie Brad Pitt his second-in-command. Starring in a number of movies together, including the “Ocean’s trilogy”, these A-listers work off each other to perfection, both onscreen and in interviews. Clooney’s pranked Pitt more than once, and Cloontang just wouldn’t be complete without his bros. Their friendship reportedly faced endangerment after Pitt missed Clooney’s wedding in 2014. When Pitt faced a messy breakup with Angelina Jolie, though, George quickly reached out to his old chum. Brangelina may be splitsville, but Breorge will never die.
