Top 10 Canadian YouTubers - TopX Ep.46

Hello, and welcome to TopX, where we count down the very best that YouTube has to offer. Today we’re heading Down Under, as we count down our picks for the top 10 Australian YouTubers. For this list, we’ve looked at the greatest YouTube channels ever created by an Australian. Our list is based on combination of votes from our users, personal preference, number of subscribers, and general impact on the YouTube community. There are no criteria limitations in terms of genre, so get ready for a little bit of everything, from cooking to comedy.

#10: Nicko’s Kitchen youtube.com/robjnixon

A professional cooking channel with over a million subscribers and hundreds of videos, Nicko’s Kitchen aims to improve recipes for a seasoned chef, and to encourage inexperienced viewers into the kitchen as well. There’s content here for all budgets and tastes, with an emphasis on family cooking as well as the odd fast food-style feature. Nicko himself, otherwise known as Rob Nixon, is a clear and confident teacher with a healthy sense of humor, and he’s always looking for an unexpected twist to a traditional dish. Subscribe here and see your eating habits evolve for the better.

#9: Lauren Curtis youtube.com/laurenbeautyy

Primarily a hair and make-up vlogger, Lauren Curtis delivers beauty tutorials and product reviews better than anyone else in Australia. However, as her channel has grown, her scope has too, and she can also offer helpful and uplifting insights into other aspects of daily life, such as body consciousness, relationship breakups and cyberbullying. Lauren essentially offers a form of friendship to her 3-million+ subscribers, while always treating her audience like a family. It’s a very cheerful channel that maintains its focus on style by being inspirational, rather than intimidating.

#8: Troye Sivan youtube.com/TroyeSivan18

Troye Sivan describes himself as “that guy from the songs/movies/videos/Australia,” which is an entirely suitable, though overly simple, way of explaining what he does. Through the power of YouTube, Sivan has carved himself a career as a musician and vocalist, with some small acting roles also thrown into an entertaining mix. On his YouTube channel, he offers funny, thought provoking and charming vlogs, all edited together with a kind of trademark quirkiness. Recognized by Time Magazine as one of the 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014, he is clearly greatly appreciated by his ever-growing fan-base.

#7: How To Basic youtube.com/HowToBasic

Top 10 YouTubers Who Rarely Show Their Faces

Life hack videos are a YouTube phenomenon, but pity any poor soul who stumbles across this channel and believes they’ve found the answer to all their daily struggles. How To Basic presents itself as any regular tutorial – there’s a to-the-point title and an unassuming opening to each clip. But then, chaos always ensues! Once you’ve gotten over the shock of the first two or three clips, then you quickly find these videos the most weirdly addictive thing on the Internet. What will he throw, break, kick, crash, smash, slam, beat up, take down or generally think of next?

#6: Mighty Car Mods youtube.com/mightycarmods

Car channels can often get weighed down in technical jargon, fuelled by unobtainable car models and manufacturers. However, from bodywork to beefing up an engine; from how-to videos to headlight tutorials, Marty and Moog aren’t just about the gimmicks; they really know their stuff! Mighty Car Mods goes a good way to reinventing the genre, making it accessible to a whole new audience, by driving at the funny¬–and often more affordable– side of the automobile industry. The most impressive thing about this channel though, is that although it’s entertaining, it’s also super-informative.

#5: Community Channel youtube.com/communitychannel

Natalie Tran first uploaded a video to YouTube in September 2006, so she’s an all-out online pro. Over time, her brand of observational comedy has won her over 550 million video views. A vlogger with an eye for detail, she’s always able to bring out the humor in human behavior. How should you act when you wake up first at a sleepover? Why do we constantly take pictures of food? And what is the best way to call in sick? Tran deals with everyday dilemmas such as these, and in doing so has transcended her act into an international success.

#4: My Cupcake Addiction youtube.com/MyCupcakeaddiction

Top 10 Hottest Male YouTubers - TopX Ep.32

Probably one of the most enticing Australian YouTube channel names, My Cupcake Addiction is ideal for anybody with even a slightly sweet tooth. Channel host Elise Strachan is everything a good baker should be; she’s friendly, funny, talkative and talented. Her tutorials are clearly structured and carefully delivered, meaning that bakers of all abilities are able to use all of her videos – the categorized playlists are also super-useful. And it’s not just cupcakes either. Elise covers regular cakes, cake pops, pies and ice cream, as well as the occasional vlog-style travel clip or restaurant review. YouTube has rarely tasted better!

#3: Veritasium youtube.com/1veritasium

If you like your science with a philosophical edge, then Veritasium is exactly what you need. Created and hosted by Derek Muller, anAustralian-Canadian, Muller has moved back and forth between Canada and Australia, and so although he doesn’t have an Aussie accent, he still makes our list. This channel seeks to study all things physics, chemistry, biology, psychology¬– if it’s science-related, there’s probably a video on it. Some videos ask questions, others explain answers; regardless, there’s always a feeling that Muller is on as much a voyage of discovery as his audience. The channel’s many experiments are uploaded alongside occasional interviews with the experts, but perhaps the Veritasium trademark is its series on scientific misconceptions. It’s myth-busting, but extra brainy.

#2: Danger Dolan youtube.com/DDTop20

For those of you who like countdown clips (and we’re guessing that’s most of you…), Danger Dolan offers videos covering an exceptionally wide range of material. Specializing in conspiracy theories, unexplained events and general creepiness, Dolan’s channel can be dark at times, funny at others, but always thought-provoking and eye-opening. The production level isn’t as high as some of today’s other entries, but Dolan gets the second spot through the sheer strangeness of some of his videos. Dolan also runs a movie channel as well as a gaming channel, for more subject-specific strangeness. Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. - Lachlan – Minecraft and More youtube.com/CraftBattleDuty - TV FilthyFrank youtube.com/TVFilthyFrank - KjraGaming youtube.com/KjraGaming - How To Cook That youtube.com/howtocookthat - UnlistedLeaf youtube.com/UnlistedLeaf - MaxMoeFoe youtube.com/maxmoefoe

#1: RackaRacka youtube.com/Therackaracka

So good they named them twice, RackaRacka are self-proclaimed “wannabe filmmakers on a rampage.” But really, they’re more than wannabe; they’re the real deal! Kind of. Headed by twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou, this channel’s very funny, gloriously gory skits on movies, gaming, and general pop culture have quickly established them as Australia’s YouTube leader. Their versus fights are legendary and the kill count is off the charts, but the true star of this show is Ronald McDonald. Thanks to RackaRacka, the fast food icon is now the most murderous mascot on the market! That’s it for today’s list… Clearly Australia is a hotbed of YouTube brilliance.
