Men may outnumber women in the DC Universe – but what the women lack in quantity, they make up for in quality. Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we count down the Top 10 DC Female Superheroes. For this list, we're excluding those characters who, fascinating as they may be, fall into a grey area between hero and villain. These women kick just as much butt as their male counterparts.

Men may outnumber women in the DC Universe – but what the women lack in quantity, they make up for in quality. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we're counting down the Top 10 DC Female Superheroes. For this list, we're excluding those characters who, fascinating as they may be, fall into a grey area between hero and villain. Sorry Catwoman, we’re looking at you.

#10: Huntress

There have been three separate DC characters named Huntress, but Helena Bertinelli is the most intriguing of the three. As a child, she witnessed her family die in a mob hit, unaware that her father was himself a mafia boss. As an adult, Helena swore to eradicate the Gotham mobs and, armed with her crossbow and a deep-rooted thirst for vengeance, took on the guise of the Huntress. Her ruthless methods sometimes put her at odds with Batman and other crimefighters, but they do get results.

#9: Hawkgirl

Several characters have also borne the name Hawkgirl or Hawkwoman; these include Shayera Hol, a police officer from the planet Thanagar. Hawkgirl possesses a belt made of the mysterious Nth metal which give her the ability to fly; the wings that are an impressive part of her costume provide propulsion and power. Hawkgirl and her partner Hawkman have made frequent use of many weapons from Earth's past, with a marked preference for the mace. A fierce warrior when riled, Hawkgirl can be a ferocious bird of prey.

#8: Zatanna

Daughter of John Zatarra, a legendary magician, Zatanna is herself one of the most powerful wielders of magic in the entire DC Universe. Like her father, Zatanna summons forth her magical abilities by speaking her spells backwards. While this seems an easy trick, it requires intense concentration and control in order to work the magic; sometimes the effort can be very draining. Nonetheless, when she is in peak form, Zatanna's powers are almost limitless, making her practically unbeatable.

#7: Raven

Top 10 Hottest Raven-Haired Beauties: Iconic

Parents can be a real pain sometimes – especially when your father is a power-mad demon from another dimension who wants to conquer the universe. That's the situation with Raven, who inherited tremendous powers from her demonic father Trigon. Fortunately, she didn't inherit his evil intent, and she joins with the Teen Titans to defeat her father and many other villains. Raven has a range of powers, including an empathic ability to take on the emotions of others. I know what you’re thinking. Daddy issues right ?

#6: Power Girl

Top 10 Movie Power Couples

Technically a Super-Girl from another dimension, Power Girl real name is Kara Zor-L just like Super Girl, except she’s from an alternate reality and is actually from Krypton-2 if you want to get specific. Possessing all the powers of her Krypton-1 counterpart and her super powered cousin, Power Girl is easily identifiable by her white costume, red cape, blonde bob cut and ample proportions (even amongst other comic book characters). Though she is often more brash and aggressive than her fellow Justice Society of America members, she was the first acting chairwoman to helm the group.

#5: Black Canary

Also in:

Top 10 Jack Black Roles

A martial artist with fighting skills that rival those of Batman himself, Black Canary is one of the most resilient heroes in comics. If a villain does somehow get the drop on her, she also has her amazing canary cry to fall back on; this piercing sonic screech can even rip through metal when pitched properly. Often linked with Green Arrow, the Canary is also an excellent strategist and excels at training other heroes, helping them reach their full potential.

#4: Starfire

The planet Tamaran is the birthplace of the strikingly beautiful Koriand'r, better known as Starfire. Although a member of the Tamaranian royal family and an heir to the throne, Starfire was enslaved to her enemies as a peace offering; breaking free, she traveled to Earth, becoming a member of the Teen Titans and eventually joining up with the Red Hood and his team. Although peaceful by nature, she is highly trained in all aspects of war and battle – and has the superpowers to back up that training.

#3: Batgirl

Supergirl Vs Batgirl

Batgirl's cape and cowl have been donned by several people, but Barbara Gordon remains the person most identified with the character. Daughter of Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon, Barbara started her Batgirl career by accident: she was dressed up for a costume party when she encountered a criminal situation. Barbara's Batgirl career was interrupted for several years after she was paralyzed by the Joker; but even then she continued fighting crime behind the scenes as Batman’s technical adviser Oracle. Her subsequent return to the Batgirl mantle promises new heights of glory for the unsinkable heroine.

#2: Supergirl

Superhero Origins: Supergirl

Kara Zor-El from Earth-1, better known as Supergirl, is cousin to the Man of Steel. Like Superman, she is a survivor of the planet Krypton and so the lesser gravity of Earth, combined with solar energy from earth’s yellow sun give her a range of mighty superpowers. The original Supergirl gave her life in the Crisis on Infinite Earths series; subsequent versions of the character altered her origin so she was actually no longer actually from Krypton. However, the most recent reboot has returned Supergirl to her rightful Kryptonian heritage. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - Silk Spectre II - Saturn Girl - Wonder Girl

#1: Wonder Woman

Also in:

Things The Woman King Got Factually Right & Wrong

Along with Batman and Superman, Wonder Woman completes the "Big 3" of DC Comics' most iconic characters. Raised on an isolated island by a race of Amazons, princess Diana assumed the mantel of Wonder Woman when she came to the world of men; here, she fights for justice and liberty for all people. Her super strength, flying ability, and magic lasso, buttressed by her warrior training, make her a formidable opponent; but her greatest asset may be as a cultural symbol who has inspired and empowered countless girls and women. Agree with our choices? What other incredible DC women deserve to be on this list? For more enthralling top 10s published daily, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
