They are the harbingers of our doom. Welcome to WatchMojo.com and today we’re counting down our picks of the top 10 four horsemen of Apocalypse from Marvel Comics. For this list we’re including characters that’ve been a part of the four horsemen in any medium including comics and TV shows. We will also be considering characters from different realities from the Marvel universe, such as the Age of Apocalypse. For those not in the know, the Horsemen mostly consist of other mutants who have come under control of the powerful and destructive Mutant Apocalypse, though some follow him of their own free will.

#10: Deathbird

One of the royal family of the Shi’ar Empire, Deathbird has a long history of treachery against her family, race and anyone who gets in her way. A deadly former empress of one of the most powerful races in the Marvel universe, Apocalypse made her his horsemen of War and she served him faithfully. Deathbird would have been ranked higher on this list if her time in the horsemen wasn’t so short lived.

#9: Abyss

The half-brother of famed the famed mutant Nightcrawler, Abyss’ powers share similarities to his more renowned kin. Using his power, he sends his foes to the same dimension Nightcrawler jumps to. Unlike the mutant teleporter, Abyss’ victims have no way to travel back and thus are sent to their doom. Abyss earned his place by his master’s side in the Age of Apocalypse universe. In that story, he killed a former horsemen to take his place, before dying at Banshee’s hands.

#8: Caliban

He once lived his life in the sewers beneath New York alongside the mutant group known as the Morlocks. A weakling, Caliban lived his life in hiding, afraid of others. Apocalypse ultimately saw value in his ability to sense fellow mutants, and was altered forever. Now granted a muscular physique and claws, Caliban relished his time as the horsemen Death and even re-joined the team years later becoming Pestilence.

#7: Banshee

Banshee is one of four former Marvel characters who were resurrected to serve as a Horsemen. A former hero and X-Men member, Banshee’s sonic screams allow him to fly and work as concussive blasts to destroy his enemies. A long-time favorite of X-Men fans worldwide, Banshee’s resurrection warmed the hearts of many readers only for their tear ducts to come into play when he was nothing but a husk of his former self.

#6: Sabretooth

Nearly becoming a member in the normal X-Men universe, it was the Age of Apocalypse universe in which this beast of a man finally served under En Sabah Nur. Tasked with leading the Horsemen, it was Sabretooth’s reaction when he learned his master was going to unleash nukes that began his dissent. When he then fell to Wolverine in battle with his back broken, Apocalypse deemed him unfit to follow him and abandoned him.

#3: Gambit

A favorite X-Man, many of those same followers would no doubt be shocked that not only did the Cajun becomea Horsemen, but he actually volunteered! Gambit’s motive for becoming the Horsemen of Death was actually to help humanity and mutants alike, however he fell under his new master’s control. With new enhanced powers that allowed him to ingest disease and use them to attack, as well as turn anything into a bomb without touching it, Gambit attacked his friends before breaking free.

Believing he’d killed his friend Bobby, Warren broke free and re-joined his friends and teammates. Before we reveal our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions. Sunfire The Hulk Gazer Mikhail Rasputin Sentry Plauge

#1: Mister Sinister

Mister Sinister is one of Apocalypse’s longest standing allies, so it makes sense he would join the ranks. In the regular X-Men universe, Sinister at one time masqueraded as Apocalypse himself, created a team of Horsemen and led them against his enemies. That is until Apocalypse learned of his machinations and put an end to it. In the Age of Apocalypse universe however, Sinister is a fully crowned Horseman who works tirelessly to create a being that could destroy his master. Do you agree with our list?
