The “Castlevania” series is one of the legends of game history. This installment dared to take the franchise in a new direction, with interesting results. It was originally announced as being independent of the series, and it dispenses with RPG elements in favor of more action, bringing it into the hack and slash genre. While this game is still divisive within the Castlevania fanbase, for what it is, it’s certainly a fantastic adventure.

This heavy metal-inspired title cranks the volume up to 11 for a one-of-a-kind hack and slash experience by combining it with Real Time Strategy elemets. As Eddie, the Jack Black starring roadie who fights evil overlords with a battle axe and a Flying V guitar. The clever sense of humor and the cartoonish graphics create a game world unlike any other. The open world design with its many sidequests will keep you occupied for hours.

Battle was a hard thing to get right on the Wii, but this was one title that managed to pull it off. The Wiimote katana swinging makes for some of the best swordplay on the console. When you face off against the intense bosses in crazy situations, you’ll be glad you have the katana on your side. The gorgeous visuals and engaging story complement the excellent gameplay.

Despite its stupid name and taking elements from the classic “Metal Gear” series, it forges its own path by replacing the reliance on stealth with frenetic action. If demon-fighting Japanese mythological creatures in modern day Paris is your thing, is your thing, you’ll love this title.
