For this list, we’re taking a look at supporting characters that should take center stage in a game of their own. We’ve excluded characters that have already gotten a spinoff, like Princess Peach, and we’re only focusing on characters that originated in video games.

#10: Vaas Montenegro “Far Cry 3” (2012)

Few video game villains have chilled players to the core like Vaas. At the same time, few video game characters have left us wanting more. Sometimes it’s fun, not to mention fascinating, to step into the shoes of a bad guy, especially one as unhinged and unpredictable as Vaas. While it’s been confirmed that this ruthless pirate met his end in “Far Cry 3,” it’d be insanely cool to get a prequel game about his road to insanity, conquest to take over the Rock Islands. Then we could finally get the full Vaas Montenegro Experience.

Victor Sullivan is much more than Nathan Drake’s sidekick. He’s his best friend, mentor, and father figure. He was also practically the second lead in “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.” What was Sully like before he crossed paths with this fellow treasure hunter, though? The games have never gone into great detail about his past, making Sully a prime candidate for a spinoff prequel. This fan favorite has all the charisma needed to carry a game about his ascension into the freelance thieving. Guaranteed to offer the “Uncharted” franchise’s trademark action set pieces and sense of adventure, it’d be a “god-damn” good time.

Over the past decade, the antihero has risen as one of the most popular character tropes in media. An antihero is always darker, edgier, and more complex than a straightforward hero. That’s one of the reasons why we’d love to see Star Fox’s longtime rival steal the spotlight in a game of his own. There’s so much we want to know about Wolf O’Donnell: How did he form the Star Wolf team? How did he get that eye patch? What exactly is his history with Fox and his father? The answers are waiting to be revealed in “Star Wolf: The Phantom Barrel Roll.”

Despite only having a major role in one “Mario” game, Geno has spawned an unlikely cult following over the past couple decades. A doll who reveals himself to be a real boy, this magical warrior from Star Road is one of the most powerful and most enigmatic members to join Mario’s party. Since then, the most we’ve seen of Geno is a brief cameo in “Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.” Fans have been pleading with Nintendo for this character to resurface, however. What better way for Geno to make a comeback than with his own RPG spinoff?

With Gordon Freeman being the silent type, it’s the supporting cast that really gives “Half-Life 2” a soul and motivates you to keep playing. Of all the characters, we look forward to seeing Alyx’s friendly face the most. Smart, resourceful, and good with firearms, Alyx is the kind of human being we’d all want in our corner in a post-apocalyptic world. Granted, sometimes Alyx will get knocked down and require saving. The fact that she always gets back up to fight another day only makes her more compelling, though. Hey if Barney and some other guy no one remembers could get their own spinoff in the first Half Life, it’s certainly not out of the question.

#5: The Boss “Metal Gear Solid” series (1987-)

Ever since making her debut in “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater,” The Boss has cemented herself as one of the most interesting characters in this franchise’s history. A soldier, mother figure, and complicated mind, the Boss shaped Big Boss into the man he would eventually become - just like how Big Boss shaped Solid Snake. Of course some of the life lessons she imparted onto her mentee weren’t so easy to swallow. It’d be a captivating experience to assume the role of this character, delving deeper into her life as The Joy before becoming The Boss.

#4: Zelda/Shiek “The Legend of Zelda” series (1986-)

It may seem strange to call this a spinoff, since the whole series is technically named after her, so maybe they would call this game The Legend of Link. Although the princess of Hyrule has been kidnapped a lot, she isn’t your typical damsel in distress. She’s wise, cunning, and reluctant to sit idly by while her kingdom is in danger. In our dream spinoff, we’d follow Zelda under her alias of Shiek during the events of “Ocarina of Time.” Whatever Nintendo gives us, though, it’s bound to be better than Wand of Gamelon.

Any of your teammates in “Mass Effect” could carry their own game. While a (xref) Tali’Zorah spinoff would also make the fanboys scream, a Garrus Vakarian spinoff would make the fangirls scream even louder. A badass while also being something of an awkward nerd, this turian steals every scene he’s in, whether fighting along Shepard in battle or acting as a love interest. There’s a compelling story waiting to be told about Garrus’ stint as Archangel and how he made so many enemies, filling in the gaps between the first two games. (soundbyte on Shepard asking how Garrus pissed off every merc) Even if the game entirely consisted of calibrating, though, it’d still be awesome as long as you got to play as Garrus.

Given the roster of diverse, kickass fighters the “Mortal Kombat” games have brought us over time, you’d think that this franchise would’ve inspired more spinoffs. If there’s one “Mortal Kombat” character that can make it solo, however, it’s Scorpion. With his arsenal and fatalities, he'd make a fantastic hack and slash character in one hell of a game. In our ideal spinoff, the story would go back to Scorpion’s beginnings, depicting his initiation into the Shirai Ryu and complicated history with Sub-Zero. There’s a reason why Meta Knight is always everyone’s first choice while playing “Super Smash Bros.” He can basically rip anybody to shreds with some basic button mashing. Aside from his impeccable skills with a sword, players are also drawn to Meta Knight due to his class, dark nature, and sense of mystery. Plus, there’s a wealth of backstory and lore surrounding this character that’s just begging to be explored. Like his rival, Kirby, this little guy proves that badass things can be found in small packages. It’s about high time we got to know more about the knight before the mask with an overdue spinoff.
