After posting pictures of herself having fun on facebook, Nathalie Blanchard, 29, is fighting to have her benefits reinstated after her employer’s insurance company cut them.
Nathalie Blanchard, 29, has been on leave from her job at IBM in Bromont, Que., for the last year and a half after she was diagnosed with major depression.
The Eastern Townships woman was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits from Manulife, her insurance company, but the payments dried up this fall.
When Blanchard called Manulife, the company said that “I’m available to work, because of Facebook,” she told CBC News this week.

Victoria’s Secret fashion show will be airing on December 1st. This year’s fantastical affair bears a “romantic travel” theme and features categories such as Enchanted Forest, All Aboard, and Star Trooper.
“We came up with the idea of this girl who lands from outer space in Paris,” explained show stylist Charlotte Stockdale. “She gets on a train that comes to a halt in Pinkland, where pink girls get on and off. Then they go into this fairy-tale forest and little lady bugs and butterflies land on them and vines grow up on their clothes. Then, there’s Tick-Tock Time; the wings in this section are based on clocks—there’s one modeled after a pocket watch with metallic feathers. And she ends up in this regal realm of princess-ness, where the wings have Swarovski jewels and peacock feathers.”

Financial writer Felix Salmon doesn’t think it’s fair or right for Henry Blodget to be writing about finance and investments. Read Blodget’s reply here.
I don’t know about this one, Henry actually seems to go all out to disclose everything, in a humorous manner to boot.
Salmon doesn’t think it’s fair that a bunch of journalists are out of work while Blodget ruminates and pontificates about tech, media and investing… but Salmon is missing a key element: in this instance, Blodget wasn’t given a job. He basically turned his InternetOutsider.com blog (a one-man operation) and built a business that now hires other journalists.
One example I can think of is when Nicholas Carlson was downsized from Nick Denton’/Gawker Media’s Valleywag, Blodget recruited Carlson pretty much immediately.
Honestly, it’s hard to think this is anything but Salmon being jealous of what Blodget has been able to pull off in a couple of years which is launch a blog that did to Tech Crunch what Tech Crunch did to Paid Content, in other words, force the latter to step it up… which in the end is a positive for the reader.
If it’s not jealousy, then Salmon is demonstrating the very kind of behavior that gives journalists a bad name.
The play in question,
From ESPN.com:
DUBLIN — Ireland appealed to France and FIFA on Thursday to replay their World Cup playoff after an obvious handball by Thierry Henry set up the deciding goal.
Ireland’s government and soccer association asked for Wednesday’s 1-1 draw in the second leg at Stade de France to be replayed. France advanced to next year’s World Cup in South Africa 2-1 on total goals.
FIFA said it received Ireland’s request for a replay, though it was unclear if the governing body of soccer would seriously consider it.
Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni called the prospect of a rematch “impossible.” Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen said he would “have a chat about it” with French President Nicolas Sarkozy at a meeting of the 27 EU leaders in Brussels.
“Fairness is part of the game,” Cowen said.
FIFA declined to comment specifically on Ireland’s protests but pointed to its rule forbidding second-guessing of on-field decisions by referees.
John Delaney, the Football Association of Ireland’s chief executive, said he doubted FIFA would respond positively unless French soccer authorities agreed to Ireland’s call for a rematch.
“It’s up to them, in particular the French, to recognize there was a travesty last night, an injustice,” Delaney said.
You’re doing everything you can think of, but you’re not losing those last 5 pounds!
Shape has created a lost of things you may be doing to sabotage your slim-down efforts.
1. You’re Loading Up on Whole Grains
It’s great that you have switched to whole grains, but many of them can be high in sugar. Instead “aim to increase your intake of brown and wild rice, bulgur, oatmeal, spelt, and quinoa, plus whole-grain breads and cereals. “Not only do most of these foods contain fiber, which helps curb your appetite.”
2. You Allow Yourself a “Cheat” Day…or Two
You all know that you can’t limit yourself entirely, but eating whatever you like all weekend long can just add back on the pounds you lost during the week. Aim for 150- to 200-calorie treat a few times a week, rather than waiting until Friday night happy hour to splurge.
3. You Make Your Own Meals
Of course it’s healthier to eat at home than at a restaurant unless you pick at everything as you prepare the meal and then again as you clear the table. Aim to eat while seated only.
4. You Squeeze in Workouts
Working out is key to losing weight, but so is being well rested. Aim to sleep enough so that you can push yourself when working out and so that you don’t injure yourself due to compromising your form.
5. You Eat Slowly, Savoring Every Bite
The longer you sit and enjoy your friends company the more you’ll probably eat. Aim to have a dining strategy in place so you don’t have to think about calories at the table- decide before if you’re having wine or bread.
6. You Enlisted a Friend to Help
Dieting with a friend is great as long as you both are good influences on one another. Try this alone if you can’t find someone who is as serious about this slim-down as you are.
According to Spanish research large amounts of alcohol everyday could help decrease chances of heart disease.
Men, in particular, benefited from this.
Beware, alcohol can also increase the risks of other diseases, like having a stroke.

Founded in Mississauga (it’s near Toronto), Ontario in the year 2001, illScarlett plays what they now call ‘pop-infused rock reggae.’ While this description is mostly a joke, that is basically the best way to describe their sound. With influences including Sublime, the band was broke when they played in the parking lot outside of Warped Tour in 2004, but founder Kevin Lyman heard them and invited them on Warped Tour the following year. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com sits down with the boys from illScarlett to learn more about the subjects they like to write about, and about a very messy video shoot.
