Officer William Murdoch was portrayed as a man who takes bribes and shoots himself in the head. In real life he tried to get as many people of the boat as he could and didn't shoot himself. The producers of the movie had to apologise and donated $8,000 to the Murdoch Memorial Fund.
In a history class we had to watch the movie and point out the errors, we found over 115 historical errors in the film from William Wallaces, backstory to the whole plot
