Ninja Gaiden Retrospective

This iconic first-person series, originally known as “Legend of the Ninja Dragon Sword” in Japan, made its North American arcade debut in 1988. Developed by Tecmo, “Ninja Gaiden”, literally translated as “Ninja Side-story”, was once a simple Double-Dragon inspired beat 'em up. In its first installment, players were introduced to Ryu Hayabusa, a blue-clad ninja on a quest across America to defeat an evil cult. Fighting with his bare hands, Ryu was able to perform back flips and flying neck throws. Since then, the series has gained a reputation for its difficulty, and has been rebooted for a much more mature audience.
