The Dominican is located in the tropical zone, and therefore has a tropical climate – albeit a mild one. Temperatures below freezing are almost unheard of, except in the country's highest, pine-covered mountains. Rainy season in the Dominican Republic is from May to November, and this added humidity can make temperatures seem hotter. As with much of the Caribbean, hurricanes sometimes damage this country.
