Leoncavallo's Tragic Clown Pagliacci

in: hosted by Mihaela Coman

Leoncavallo's Tragic Clown Pagliacci Written and composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo, 'Pagliacci' is an opera that recounts the story of a jealous husband driven to kill by passion. This is Leoncavallo’s only widely staged opera, and is often paired with Pietro Mascagni’s 'Cavalleria rusticana' as a double bill. 'Pagliacci' features one of opera’s most popular and recognizable arias: 'Recitar! ...Vesti la giubba.' This has helped this opera to become one of the United States' most often staged performances.
