Top Sites To Visit Outside Quebec City
Part of the Laurentian Mountains, Mont-Sainte-Anne is a popular alpine and cross-country ski resort in the area. In fact, it is the largest cross-country ski center in Canada. The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre is a church which overlooks the Saint Lawrence River, and it receives about one million pilgrims each year. And the highest waterfalls in the province; the majestic Montmorency Falls can be found near to Quebec City, and are actually 98 feet higher than Niagara Falls. Near Mont-Sainte-Anne is the Basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. The church, found overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, receives about half a million pilgrims each year. Legend says that this basilica is responsible for many miracles, including healing the sick and disabled. It is for this reason that the front of the church is littered with canes, crutches and other signs of disabilities.
About seven miles outside Québec City is the highest waterfall in the province. Montmorency Falls plunge 275 feet in the Saint Lawrence River. In fact, these falls are 98 feet higher than Niagara Falls. Visitors can view the falls from a cable car, as well as various staircases and a suspension bridge. This site is also the backdrop for an international fireworks festival during the summer season.
