10 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Accused of Sexual Misconduct
Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’ll be looking at 10 Celebrities You Didn’t Know Were Accused of Sexual Misconduct.
For this list, we’ll be examining the most shocking misconduct allegations against high-profile individuals that flew under the radar. To be clear, these are just accusations and not confirmed incidents. However, it’s important to note that being accused of such behavior doesn’t automatically equate to guilt. Whether or not the incidents went to court or resulted in legal convictions doesn’t mean they weren’t real or that the allegations are false and/or lack credibility. We’re just shedding light on these cases. On that note, we’ll be excluding celebrities like Harvey Weinstein, whose claims resulted in legal charges.
What other celebrity accusations went largely unreported? Let us know in the comments.
Oliver Stone
In 2017, the MeToo movement was kicked into gear following the onslaught of misconduct allegations leveled against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. For his initial remarks about the Hollywood executive, director Oliver Stone received backlash. Soon after, former Playboy model Carrie Stevens took to Twitter, alleging that Stone had grabbed her inappropriately at a party in the ‘90s. Though Stone later reversed his comments and even announced he’d drop out of a proposed Guantanamo Bay series produced by Weinstein in a statement, actresses Patricia Arquette and Melissa Gilbert also claimed that Stone had behaved in an unprofessional manner with them. Stone quickly refuted the allegations made by Gilbert, but didn’t appear to address any of the others.
George Takei
“Star Trek” actor and LGBTQ rights activist George Takei was the subject of misconduct accusations in November of 2017. In an article by The Hollywood Reporter, former model Scott R. Brunton alleged that Takei had assaulted him back in 1981. According to Brunton, the two had returned to Takei’s apartment after a night out, and in later interviews, claimed the actor supposedly drugged him, and then groped him without his consent. Takei took to social media to deny the allegations, stating that he did not even remember Brunton. A couple of months later, a reporter for the Observer claimed to have investigated Brunton’s accusations and seriously called them into question. However, the former model continues to stand by his story.
Miguel
In March of 2017, a woman named Xian Bass alleged in an Instagram post that R&B singer Miguel had assaulted her. Bass claimed that she met Miguel at a club in Los Angeles and was groped by him after they took a selfie together. The allegations received very little media coverage initially and they were brushed off by Miguel in an interview with TMZ. In the wake of the MeToo movement, the claims resurfaced in an article by the online magazine SPIN. Bass stated that she had filed a police report with the LAPD, but the investigation stalled as no other women came forward with accusations against Miguel. This time, the singer put out a statement calling Bass’ story “bizarre”, “unfair” and “unwarranted”.
Jeffrey Tambor
For his performance as a trans woman in the Amazon series “Transparent,” Jeffrey Tambor received critical acclaim and won two Primetime Emmys. However, a few months after the premiere of the show’s fourth season, Tambor was fired following an investigation into misconduct allegations. Tambor was first accused of verbal and sexual harassment by Van Barnes, a trans woman who worked as his personal assistant on the series. Soon after, his “Transparent” co-star Trace Lysette also described being assaulted by Tambor during production. A third accuser came forward days later, claiming that Tambor had behaved inappropriately towards her back in the early 2000s. The actor publicly apologized for his behavior and expressed regret if his actions were misinterpreted.
John Lasseter
In November of 2017, Pixar Animation boss John Lasseter announced in a memo to his staff that he would be taking a six-month leave of absence. This came in the wake of multiple allegations against Lasseter that detailed a pattern of inappropriate behavior in the workplace. The Hollywood Reporter also claimed that Lasseter had made unwanted sexual advances towards actress Rashida Jones, who co-wrote “Toy Story 4” alongside him, causing her to pull out of the project. Jones, however, refuted the claims, stating that she parted ways with Pixar due to creative differences. Lasseter eventually left Disney permanently and was later brought on to lead Skydance Animation - a decision that was met with swift backlash.
Ed Westwick
Best known for his role as Chuck Bass on the TV series “Gossip Girl,” British actor Ed Westwick faced multiple sexual assault allegations in 2017. The first accusations were made by actress Kristina Cohen, who claimed that Westwick had assaulted her in his home back in 2014. Westwick’s second accuser, a woman named Aurélie Wynn, also alleged that the unfortunate incident had taken place in a home the actor had rented. A few other women, most of whom preferred to remain unnamed, also came forward with accusations against Westwick. As a result, he was replaced by the BBC in its adaptation of the Agatha Christie drama “Ordeal by Innocence”. Following an investigation by LA prosecutors, Westwick was spared from any criminal charges.
Ryan Seacrest
The first report on the sexual misconduct allegations against American media personality Ryan Seacrest came in November of 2017. The Hollywood Reporter published an article in which Seacrest publicly addressed and denied the claims, although the identity of his accuser wasn’t revealed. As the accusations were reported to have occurred when Seacrest worked at “E! News,” the network launched an independent investigation into them. In February of 2018, they concluded that there was insufficient evidence to back up the claims and the investigation was ended. Later that month, it was revealed that Seacrest’s accuser was Suzie Hardy, his former stylist at E! Hardy publicly reiterated her allegations and reportedly took the matter up with the LAPD.
Dustin Hoffman
In a November 2017 essay with The Hollywood Reporter, a woman named Anna Graham Hunter called out actor Dustin Hoffman for harassing her on the set of a 1985 film. In response, Hoffman released a public statement in which he apologized for his behavior towards her, but did not admit outright to any wrongdoing. Hunter’s claims were soon followed by a string of accusations by other women, ranging from unwelcome advances to flat-out assault. Through his attorneys, Hoffman denied the other allegations, calling them “defamatory falsehoods”. The controversy led to a heated confrontation between the actor and TV host John Oliver during a film panel in December 2017.
Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck first rose to prominence with 1997’s “Good Will Hunting,” which was executive distributed by Harvey Weinstein’s Miramax Films. In the wake of Weinstein’s MeToo scandal, Affleck put out a statement condemning the producer’s actions. Soon after, actress Hilarie Burton accused Affleck of groping her during a 2003 appearance on MTV’s “Total Request Live”. A clip of the alleged incident quickly resurfaced online. Affleck responded to the claims by apologizing directly to Burton on Twitter, and later addressed the issue during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”. Around the same period, Affleck was also called out by a makeup artist named Annamarie Tendler, who alleged that he had behaved inappropriately towards her at a 2014 Golden Globes party.
John Travolta
Long before the MeToo wave of 2017, Hollywood actor John Travolta was the subject of multiple sexual misconduct allegations. Back in 2012, Travolta was sued by two unnamed massage therapists who alleged that he had assaulted them during their respective appointments. Later that same year, another lawsuit was filed against Travolta, this time by a Chilean cruise worker named Fabian Zanzi. Zanzi claimed that the actor had made unwanted advances towards him, even offering him $12,000 in exchange for sexual favors. Travolta’s legal team denied all allegations. The cases underwent various developments and legal proceedings, but they were eventually all dismissed, for various reasons.
