For this list, we’ll be looking at infamous incidents of rude, entitled, and mean people who let their rage consume them so much that they targeted children and teenagers.
Did you ever bump into a Karen when you were a teen or younger? Let us know below!
Water Day Ruined
A day spent on the water as the sun beats down sounds idyllic. But as Fay Johnson found out, it can all get ruined quickly when emotions dictate actions. In March 2022, Johnson and her children were paddling on a river in Bristol, England. However, a group of kids nearby were allegedly throwing rocks and mud at people in the water. Enraged, the 32-year-old Johnson confronted the group and struck Antwon Forrest on the forehead with a paddle, leaving a nasty scar. To somehow make it worse, there was no evidence Forrest threw anything. After the police were heavily criticized for not acting, eventually, Johnson was charged with assault. She was handed a four-month suspended sentence and had to pay Forrest £500.Insanity on the I-95
Most of us who experience road rage incidents usually utter some choice phrases under our breaths, making sure no one hears. But Aliyah Beeman went another way. In September 2021, teen driver Kelian Martinez was suddenly cut off by Beeman on Interstate 95. As the two exited, Beeman stopped her vehicle, blocking the teen. She got out and began screaming at Martinez, claiming the youngster had cut her off. Even after being warned that she was a minor, Beeman lunged at Martinez and swung her around violently while hitting her. While Martinez put up a good fight, road Karen was far bigger than her. In March 2022, Beeman was arrested for assault.Pool Patrol Paula
In July 2018, a Black teenager was invited to a neighborhood swimming pool by his friend in Summerville, South Carolina. Instead of a fun time, he met a grim one thanks to Stephanie Sebby-Strempel. A brief video recorded by the teen showed her telling him to leave, claiming that she’ll call the cops, and hitting him more than once. Sebby-Strempel allegedly uttered some slurs, too. When the police arrived later to arrest her, she lost it. Sebby-Strempel assaulted the officers, even biting one on the arm! It’s weird how often a Karen resorts to using their teeth. Shortly after, skincare company Rodan + Fields fired Pool Patrol Paula. To make it worse for her, in December 2018, Sebby-Strempel pleaded guilty to various charges and was fined $1000.Teaching's a Drag
When you send your kids to school, you expect teachers to be kind and fair towards them. Well, one preschool educator working for Alta Head Start at Youngstown City Schools in Ohio had her own bonkers methods. The unidentified teacher was photographed by a colleague dragging a child by the arm through a school hallway, and the image was forwarded to management. Unsurprisingly, parents, guardians, and pretty much everyone was astonished at educator Karen’s heinous actions. While there’s no explanation given for what caused this aggressive behavior, nothing excuses it. The school did apologize for the incident, and the teacher was promptly fired. Delightful.Spitting Mad
It’s always strange when a lawyer breaks the law and does it in such an obvious way. In June 2020, an anti-racism protest took place in Shorewood, Wisconsin, in reaction to the murder of George Floyd. Well, not on Stephanie Rapkin’s watch! After blocking the march with her car, the protesters asked her to move. Instead, she spat at teenager Eric Lucas - during a pandemic! Rapkin claimed she was intimidated as the protestors weren’t wearing masks…well, neither was she. In May 2023, the lawyer was convicted of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and was given a choice. Rapkin could go to jail for 60 days or have a year of probation with 100 hours of community service. She chose prison. Yikes.Bellow to the Bus Driver
Bored teenagers can be a rowdy bunch, sure. But there are better ways of dealing with this than the route one school bus driver took in January 2020. When the vehicle’s tire burst in Kannapolis, North Carolina, forcing the bus to pull over, the kids onboard allegedly got excitable as they waited for a replacement. So, the driver absolutely lost it and yelled abuse at her passengers, saying she didn’t care about them, mocked them for being anxious, and threw in some cursing, too, for good measure. During her apology afterward, the unidentified woman claimed her mind “went blank” when she exploded in rage. Regardless, she was fired by the district, which offered apologies to the families affected by the incident.Soho Karen
In December 2020, Miya Ponsetto discovered her cell phone was missing. She eventually realized she had left it in an Uber, but before then she irrationally accused black teenager Keyon Harrold, Jr. of stealing it at the Arlo Hotel in New York City. Ponsetto refused to believe he was innocent and attacked him and his musician father. With the startling CCTV footage and a video taken by the teen’s father of the incident, the only thing that stopped Ponsetto from getting a prison sentence was that she pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment in the second degree as a hate crime in April 2022. As such, she got two years of probation and had to continue undergoing counseling.Hairdressing Punishment
For a while, the behavior of science teacher Margaret Gieszinger was concerning to parents, who reported her to authorities at the University Preparatory High School in Visalia, California, only to be dismissed. Well, in December 2018, things escalated when a video was released that showed Gieszinger forcibly cutting the hair off a student while singing the US national anthem. Afterward, she attempted to cut more follicles of other students who ran away in the chaos. Gieszinger claimed she planned to cut the hair of a foreign exchange student that lived with her who was acting “like a ding-dong,” only to snip away at another’s after an issue with cell phones in class. The teacher was charged with six misdemeanors and lost her job.Santa Ana Karen
After nearly being hit by a car while on a bicycle, Jeffrey Gregory of Santa Ana, Claiforniawas told by his mother to ride on the sidewalk, which he did. But then in April, 2022, the youngster came across the angry 80-year-old Susan Garcia as she was arguing with some other kids on the street. Suddenly, she grabbed his bike, pushed him, and appeared to hit Gregory as she ordered him off the pavement. This caused Gregory’s parents to intervene and argue with Garcia. She explained later that she felt “threatened and scared” during the interaction. However, that didn’t stop Garcia from being arrested for assault on Gregory.Mask Madness
You’d expect daycare workers to look after children, not to traumatize them. But that’s what we got with employees at the Lil’ Blessings Child Care & Learning Center in Hamilton, Mississippi. Recordings released in October 2022 showed four women donning a “Scream”-esque mask to terrify toddlers supposedly in their care. They seemingly did this as punishment for bad behavior instead of being rational and speaking to the youngsters. One of the accused workers, CeeCee, even tried justifying the horrific events in a social media video, which didn’t go down well. The four employees were fired and charged with child abuse, while another worker was charged with failure to report the bizarre and criminal punishments.
