Do not adjust your stereo. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’ll be looking at the Top 10 Questions We Need Answered in 13 Reasons Why Season 3.
For this list, we’ll be looking at some of the biggest cliffhangers, confusing plot twists, and mind boggling open-ended questions that we want answered.
At the end of season two, Clay is finally able let Hannah go. But does that mean her story is over? Season one focused mostly on Hannah’s decision to commit suicide, while season two focused on the aftermath. Now that season three is approaching, the new story might be more focused on the lives of Hannah’s friends as they start to move on and how they will go on without her. Based on an Instagram post by THE Hannah Baker herself, it seems that she may not appear in the new season. But just because Hannah’s story may be over, it doesn’t necessarily mean that she isn’t still important.
From season one to season two, Justin goes from being on top of the world to rock bottom. His mother and her boyfriend are abusive drug addicts, and after dealing with his part in Hannah’s suicide, and the role he played in Jessica’s rape, there is really no question as to why Justin felt the need to ease some of his pain. The real question is, will he be able to overcome it. The group attempts to help him kick it, but, as we see at the end of season two, Justin is still using behind his friends’ backs. His addiction is sure to be a major part of his storyline in season three, and we’re looking forward to seeing how it resolves.
Similar to the tapes in season one, the season two mystery is slowly revealed through a series of polaroids. The polaroids could have been key to taking down Bryce Walker, or proving the school’s negligence, but they are stolen. Though the show answers the question of who took them by revealing Nina burning them, it brings up a brand new one. Nina is crucial in helping Jessica deal with her assault, in part by talking about her own rape. So why would she steal the polaroids that could help other girls get justice? Is there something in those pictures she doesn’t want anyone to see?
In the climactic moment in the season two finale, Clay steps in front of Tyler and his gun and prevent him from shooting up the school. Though they didn’t exactly handle that situation in the best way, their intentions were clearly to spare Tyler from doing something that he can’t take back. They help Tyler escape, but police sirens can already be heard approaching in the background. Clay is left holding the assault rifle, but will he also be left holding the bag for Tyler’s actions? And if Clay somehow avoids this predicament, what will he do with the gun?
After discovering Clay secretly housing Justin in his room, Clay’s parents decide to officially adopt Justin. But Clay and Justin have a bit of a precarious relationship–these two aren’t exactly friends. Their shared trauma has brought them together in some ways, and will ultimately be a dominant part of their lives forever. But how will their relationship bloom under the same roof? The end of season two already showed us a little bit of Clay’s jealousy toward his new roommate. In season three, we’re sure will see plenty of sibling rivalry and brotherly love.
The end of season two opened up the possibility for many new season three storylines. One of the most pressing being Chloe getting pregnant. Chloe’s relationship with Bryce is one of the most important stories in season two. After realizing that he raped her, Chloe tried to testify against Bryce, but couldn’t go through with it. It was hard to watch her stay loyal to him, but this new twist could change everything. If you watched the teaser trailer for season three, then you saw that Chloe might be getting friendly with someone new, so that begs the question, will Chloe even stay with Bryce? We can hope that this pregnancy will give her the wake up call she needs to get away from him.
What would any teen drama be without a good old fashioned love triangle? In spite of a lot of ups and downs, Jessica and Alex start up a relationship again in season two of this show. But in the finale episode, Jessica and Justin share an intimate moment at the school dance. They just can’t seem to stay away from each other. Inevitably, Alex will eventually find out their sordid affair. Though we’ll have to wait and see exactly what will happen, things are certainly bound to get a lot worse before they get better.
Though we already know from the season three trailer that Bryce is dead, this show’s signature style is sure to reveal to us just what happened through flashbacks. There are many people with a motive to want Bryce dead. We can think of about thirteen off the top of our heads. Though not all of them had any direct conflict with Bryce, they’ve all had to suffer the fallout from his actions. Clay already almost crossed that line once. Chloe or Jessica or Hannah’s mother are pretty solid candidates. Maybe it’s even a new victim who was defending herself. Or perhaps it was even a conspiracy, a la an Agatha Christie novel. So many possibilities.
Let’s get back to Tyler. After that climactic moment in the season 2 finale, one of our most pressing questions is what will happen to Tyler. Clay has proven himself more than ready to protect him. He stopped him from shooting up the school and helped him get away– he was sympathetic to his pain, and not wanting to cause any more of it. But what happens next? Will the group continue to protect him, even at their own expense? It is clear that Tyler needs some serious help. Hopefully, his friends will at least help him get it properly.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions:
Will Tony & Caleb Stay Together?
Will Skye & Clay Get Back Together?
Will Seth Come After Justin?
There is no doubt that Monty should pay for what he did to Tyler. Hopefully Tyler and the group won’t resort to taking matters into their own hands again, but it has been proven time and time again that there aren’t very many adults they can trust. Hannah died, and Jessica has to be at school with her attacker because of the school’s negligence to hold certain students accountable for their actions. So we won’t hold our breath, but we can hope that the school has learned from its past mistakes, and will do better this time around.
