Another Top 10 Awkward Moments in Live Television History

Though it first aired on TV almost a decade ago, this clip from ABC 17 News, in which local filmmaker Tyrone Davis is being interviewed for a Free Form Film Festival has certainly made the rounds around the internet ever since YouTube was invented and gained popularity. And now, Davies has had to live with this moment being caught permanently on media that can be watched over and over again. The worst of it is seeing him try desperately to contain the puke, and you might notice a brief moment in which he tries to keep some in his mouth, before deciding that it's too late. It's a disgusting and embarrassing clip, but there’s just something about watching someone else be awkward and embarrassed in a public forum that we strange human beings are fascinated with.

It was just another day in the life of Dina Sansing, with the US Weekly editor taking the time to speak with TV personality Glenn Beck on his news talk and political opinion show. That is, until things got REALLY creepy. After discussing how racy photos of an "American Idol" contestant has recently popped up online, Beck asks Sansing a question that no woman wants to hear. As if that wasn't weird enough, the awkward silence and look of absolute terror on Dina's face suggests that she didn't find the joke even remotely funny at all. We don't know what was going through Beck’s mind when he thought it’d be appropriate to ask a professional something like this on air, but then again, maybe we don't want to know.

Sometimes watching the local news is more entertaining than anything else you can get on TV . Not because of the content, but because of the hilarity that is unintentionally created by the newscasters and anchors. Just take this clip, for example, when Melissa Long seems to personally take offense to the meteorologist's weather forecast. This leads to a terrifically entertaining but brutally awkward exchange between the two. It's like watching two high school girls fight; smiles and fake laughs galore, but a brooding hatred lurking just underneath. Except, you know, these are two fully-grown, mature “professionals.”

You probably weren’t expecting a sexually suggestive burn like this live on the air on this hour-long news program – but that’s exactly what we got! After the “Ten News” presenter finished up his report on The Ashes urn, he made a comment about the trophy’s small-but-impressive size to Belinda Heggen. She quickly and unexpectedly quipped “Well, Mark, you would know about that.” Mark Aiston’s stunned silence and Heggen’s instant change of subject after her comment are enough to leave anyone’s mouth hanging up and the subsequent media attention that this clip of the news report garnered is proof of the power of properly used and properly timed words!

Asking Kristen Wiig for advice on being nude on live TV is probably not the best idea this KWGN reporter has ever had. After clarifying to a clearly distraught Kristen that he was only making a joke due to her supposed nudity in "The Skeleton Twins," the interview gets even more awkward when Wiig and Bill Hader berate Chris Parent for mistaking the movie they’re on the air to promote with another. While everything seems to have been done all in good fun, with both the actors and the anchor/reporter taking it all in stride, pretending that you've seen the film in question and asking for advice about going nude is a sure-fire way to lose respect and wind up on the internet.

Have you ever been in the middle of two people arguing and decided to take a sudden interest in the upholstery? That's what everyone felt like doing watching this segment of "Good Day New York," in which anchor Jim Ryan chastised reporter Dick Oliver for basically doing a crappy interviewing job – WHILE the cameras were still rolling. Viewers got far more than they bargained for here, including the personal tidbit that Oliver had been demoted. And what was all this quibbling over? A tenant versus landlord dispute at a local apartment complex. It hardly seems worth the intensity, no? Or maybe it does…

Freestyling a poem is very tricky stuff, as evident by this poet and author who attempts to do so during an interview on "Talk of Alabama." When he's about to spit an epic freestyle, Marshall Pope simply stares at the camera and smiles like his face has been frozen. We have to give him props for making the attempt, but his numerous false starts, lack of content, and desperate stare at the camera are enough to make anyone cringe in agony. Good thing the interviewer saves the day. We wonder how long he would have kept staring...

Flooding: it's dangerous and an extremely serious topic to discuss on the news, and one that many people deserve to know about. You could also exaggerate it for drama, though. This hilarious clip proves that some news stations will embellish anything for ratings. From the reporter dramatically canoeing through the streets like she's in "The Day After Tomorrow" to the two men absent-mindedly walking past the camera in ankle-high water, this segment from the news and talk morning show brings the rep of "Today Show" down a notch, though hopefully still gave viewers a bit of a laugh as well.

Have you ever worked with someone that simply hates your guts for no reason and will do anything to put you down? That's how poor meteorologist Carol Erickson must be feeling working with this snob of an anchor. Nicole Brewer sarcastically answers everything Carol says and constantly berates her in front of the camera. All with a fake smile and joking tone, of course. Their on screen “relationship” steps around actually being funny and is instead an awkward and uncomfortable viewing experience time and time again, though. In fact, it makes us want to get up and give the poor meterologist a hug.

“For my next trick, I will ruin this interview and make everyone watching cringe in agony!” While this poor man attempts to interview David Blaine, the magician and illusionist instead stares at Eamon Holmes as if he's trying to look into the journalist and broadcaster’s soul. Blaine also gives the “GMTV” co-presenter monosyllabic answers to his questions as if he’d just taken a handful of painkillers. While Holmes attempts to salvage the bit and points out how dull David is being, we all know that that this only makes things MORE awkward. Though it can be painful to watch, it’s a somewhat hilarious couple minutes of entertainment as well.
