From an obscure ragtag team, to the center of the MCU? That’s exactly what the Guardians of the Galaxy intend to do, as director James Gunn announced that the squad will be setting up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the very foreseeable future. During a Q&A at Facebook Los Angeles, Gunn stated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would be setting up future MCU films and story line for the next 10 to 20 years, as the third installment will be taking place after the next two Avengers movies; Infinity War and its sequel. While fans of the Guardians might rejoice at the thought of their favorite hooligans earning more importance in the franchise, Gunn quickly added at the end of his interview that this would be the last movie with the current version of the superheroes.
A comedy legend has left us. Actor Jerry Lewis passed away August 20th as a result of ischemic cardiomyopathy, a condition where the heart isn’t strong enough to pump blood throughout the body. Lewis became one of the biggest comedic names in Hollywood, with performances in The Nutty Professor, The Bellboy and later, Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy. While his onscreen persona made people laugh, his off-screen personality often had the opposite effect, as he was known as a controversial and polarizing figure. But something most people could agree on was the dedication to his muscular dystrophy cause, with his yearly telethon, which raised over $2.5 billion from 1966 to 2009. A number of celebrities and friends took to social media to pay their respects to Lewis, including Samuel L. Jackson, Jim Carrey and Jimmy Kimmel to name a few.
Before we get to out final entry, here are a couple new releases.
“Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D” (2017)
“Leap!” (2017)
Looks like push has come to shove, with Warner Bros. and DC planning not one, but two brand new movies based on everyone’s favorite villain, The Joker. Deadline wrote that legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese is on board to produce a Joker origin movie with The Hangover’s Todd Phillips directing and The Hollywood Reporter broke news that Crazy Stupid Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in final negotiations to script and helm a Joker, Harley Quinn film. According to Deadline, the origin story will focus on “a gritty and grounded” crime film, drawing inspiration from Scorsese’s Raging Bull and Taxi Driver. Leto won’t be starring in that film, but will reprise his role alongside Margot Robbie in Ficarra and Requa’s movie. Sources say the film will be a twisted love story; “When Harry Met Sally on Benzedrine.” The romantic movie is said to be released after Suicide Squad’s sequel.
