Halloween Cast: Where Are They Now?
Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re looking at the top 10 "Halloweentown" cast: where are they now?
For this list, we’ll be looking at standout actors from this iconic Disney Channel Original movie and seeing what they’ve done since appearing in the film.
Who’s your favorite character from "Halloweentown"? Let us know in the comments below!
#10: Shannon Day
Aerobics Instructor
When the creatures of “Halloweentown” want to get in shape, they take a class with their gym’s energetic feline aerobics instructor. The peppy cat creature was played by Shannon Day. Since appearing in the film, the actress voiced a mythical creature named Muriel in the game “Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island”. Day has also appeared in movies like the rom-com “Nearing Grace”. But she’s found the most consistent success on tv. She’s secured roles in “Portlandia”, “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” and “The Man in the High Castle”. The versatility and energy Day brings to each role would make that feline aerobics instructor proud.
#9: Rino Romano
Benny
Who needs an Uber driver when you have Benny? This kind and wisecracking skeleton takes you anywhere you need to go in "Halloweentown". After voicing Benny, actor Rino Romano landed several memorable roles in video games. In the video game world, he’s played Peter Parker/Spider-Man, voiced Scorp in the “Skylander” series, and had a standout role as Luis in “Resident Evil 4”. Romano didn't limit his vocal talents to video games. He narrated over 60 episodes of “Curious George”, played the webhead again in the “Spider-Man Unlimited” series, and added some gravel to his voice to play the Dark Knight in the mid-2000s show, “The Batman”. Romano's incredible voice career makes us appreciate his role as Benny that much more.
#8: Kenneth Choi
Hip Salescreature
At first glance, you might not recognize the salesman who provides Marnie with her first broom. The actor underneath the creature makeup and Elvis impression is none other than the fantastic Kenneth Choi. Although this small role in this Halloween movie was his first acting credit, it was far from his last. Choi has appeared on popular shows like “Sons of Anarchy” and “American Crime Story”. He’s also played supporting roles in “The Wolf of Wall Street”, “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. After racking up a ton of acting credits, Choi landed a starring role as Howie “Chimney” Han on the drama “9-1-1”. Knowing that Haloweentown’s quirky salesman has become a serious leading man is, to use his own words, totally rad.
#7: Phillip Van Dyke
Luke
Luke was a troublemaking goblin who performed evil acts to become more handsome. But after a change of heart, he helps save his hometown and gets a kiss from his crush, Marnie. Actor Phillip Van Dyke played the sinister and sensitive sides of Luke well. After “Halloweentown”, he reprised his role in the first sequel and appeared on shows like “Gilmore Girls”. Van Dyke also played Prince Ivan in “Bartok the Magnificent” and starred as Arnold in 36 episodes of “Hey Arnold!”. But despite his relative success in the acting world, his passions lay outside of Hollywood. According to a 2015 interview, he’s now a married father of two who works in finance. Fortunately for fans, Van Dyke is down to attend a cast reunion.
#6: Robin Thomas
Kalabar
It was a shame that the charming Mayor Kalabar turned out to be the villain of "Halloweentown". Robin Thomas was so good in the role that you almost wanted him to succeed. After being defeated by the Cromwell witches, the actor successfully landed movie roles in family films like “Horse Sense”, and 2000’s Sci-Fi classic “Clockstoppers”. Thomas also did well for himself on TV with recurring roles in hit tv shows, such as “Queer as Folk” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”. If you want to see more of this charming actor, you can catch him playing Graham Winslow in Hallmark’s ongoing “Mystery 101” series.
#5: Debbie Reynolds
Agatha “Aggie” Cromwell
From the moment Debbie Reynolds spoke her first line, we knew that no one else could’ve played Grandma Aggie. She brought an intense warmth and quiet power to her role as the head of a family of witches. While Reynolds already had a legendary career prior to the movie, she continued to appear in fun matriarch roles. She played everything from Lulu Pickles in “Rugrats” to Bobbi Adler in “Will & Grace”. And she also made time to reprise her role as Aggie in all the “Halloweentown” sequels. Sadly, Debbie Reynolds passed away in 2016. She will always be remembered as a talented woman who made us believe in magic.
#4: Emily Roeske
Sophie Piper
The youngest Cromwell sibling had a natural gift for magic. Whether she was making cookies fly or remembering spells by heart, it was clear that she was meant to become a witch. Sophie was played by Emily Roeske. After appearing in “ER” and reprising her role in two "Halloweentown" sequels, the actress retired from the business. Roeske instead focused her time becoming extremely good at martial arts. She’s currently a third-degree black belt who has held the ranks of National grand champion and Arizona state champion. Given the tremendous success she’s enjoyed as a martial artist, it's safe to say she made the right decision to trade in her witch’s broom for a black belt.
#3: Joey Zimmerman
Dylan Piper
Throughout "Halloweentown", the intelligent and sarcastic Dylan Cromwell has trouble believing in magic. But when his family needs him the most, he's able to draw on the hidden powers that were always inside him. Joey Zimmerman brought Dylan and his trademark wit to life in every single "Halloweentown" movie. He's also appeared on “That ‘70s Show”, “Lizzie McGuire” and the movie “Treehouse Hostage”. Although Zimmerman doesn't have a ton of acting credits, he's still working in the entertainment business. He’s a writer who co-founded ZFO entertainment, a creative company that aims to be the best in “indie geek entertainment”. Since Zimmerman has some writing experience, do you think we can convince him to write another "Halloweentown" sequel?
#2: Judith Hoag
Gwen Piper
Although Gwen Piper was born into a family of strong witches, she tried to keep her three children away from anything magical. But after they all visit Halloweentown, she reluctantly embraces her mystical roots again. Gwen was perfectly portrayed by Judith Hoag in the original film and all its sequels. The actress could also be spotted in movies like “Bad Words” and “I Am Number Four”. It’s been even easier to find Hoag on television. She’s had big roles in “Nashville” and “Big Love”. One of Hoag’s recent notable roles was on “The Magicians”. Hoag’s character Stephanie is much more reliant on magic on this show. Seeing her embracing spells instead of rejecting them makes us feel like the actress has come full circle.
#1: Kimberly J. Brown
Marnie
Kimberly J. Brown’s Marnie is essentially the face of the "Halloweentown" franchise. In the first film, her determination to embrace her magical heritage saved lives and brought her family together. When Brown reprised the role in two sequels, she kept what audiences loved about Marnie while allowing the character to grow. Although she wasn’t asked to appear in the final film, she’s still been busy. Brown appeared in films like “Bringing Down the House” and landed roles on shows like “Law & Order SVU” and “Low Winter Sun”. Brown also took time in between acting roles to start an Etsy shop called CraftilyCreative. And before you ask, yes, you can buy "Halloweentown"-themed merchandise from her store!
