"Dead Island 2" is full of zombies, but in between the hordes are some pretty interesting secrets. For this list, we'll be looking at Easter Eggs and other hidden secrets found in "Dead Island 2." Our list includes The Romeros, The Sword in the Stone, Past Survivors, Game On, and more!
Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we’re slicing and dicing the dead to find 10 hidden secrets and easter eggs in Dead Island 2. HELL-A is full of zombies for us to chop up and in between the hordes of the dead there are also some pretty interesting secrets scattered throughout the zombie infested LA. Fight your way through the horde and let us know any secrets we may have missed in the comments.

The Sword In The Stone

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

The classic tale of the sword in the stone. A blade imprisoned inside a piece of rock - only for the person that frees it to be crowned king. Once we gain access to the Santa Monica Pier we’ll spot a dragon shaped stone and placed in its head is a sword. While removing this won’t make us king of HELL-A, it will give us a powerful weapon to chop the dead in half. If we charge up our attacks we’ll be able to blow our zombie foes into pieces. Now only if we could find a crown.

Secret Weapons

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

With the hordes of zombies all throughout HELL-A making it hard to get around, we’ll need some weapons to clear a path. Scattered throughout the world we can find simple tools that we can upgrade, but we still need some heavy hitters. There are a handful of secret weapons that will help us take out the dead. Simple weapons like Peggy and Raven being stronger rifles. More powerful melee weapons like the Jade Dragon or Zom-B-Gon with crazy attack power and elemental mods. With so many to find, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but my go to was the Space Fox 2250, despite being a movie prop it wreaks some real havoc.

Past Survivors

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

It’s been over ten years since the first Dead Island so some of the characters may have been forgotten. Luckily Sam B still remembers. If we hang around Sam B for a while we can hear him talk to our survivors, while most of these conversations are meaningless, some bridge the cap from Dead Island to Dead Island 2. When Curtius asked Sam to name his handy gun we heard his thoughts on past characters such as Logan, Xian Mei, Perna, and finally John.

The Talking Dead

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

While the talking dead aren’t new to the Dead Island universe, it’s still a little strange hearing them speak. Only one type of zombie talks during our travels in HELL-A, that being the Bursters. These guys don’t just say “braiiiins” or small grunts, they actually seem to have emotions. Hearing them beg for help or say how lonely they are really makes you question if these brain eaters are brain dead. I almost feel bad making them pop into little pieces, maybe they just wanted to be friends or just needed a hug.

VO Walk of Fame

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

“Dead Island 2” has recreated many iconic locations in LA. Spots like the Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach, and of course Hollywood Boulevard. One of the more popular tourist spots makes its way to “Dead Island 2”, but with a twist. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is full of famous actors and directors in the film industry, but the names of Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg won’t be found there. Instead of the hottest in Hollywood in the stars, you can actually find the voice actors getting some love.

Film Buff

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

It’s only right to have a few movie references in a game set in Hollywood. Most of these are just small throwaway lines, but still fun! Movies like “Dawn of the Dead”, “The Shining”, and “Saving Private Ryan”. During the mission "Beach Offensive" we can see “Redrum” on the door, this clearly being a reference to “The Shining”. Or during the mission “Boz Makes a Bang” we can hear the character say “Another medal of honor for Private Ryan” while looking at a military set.

The Romeros

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

Of course the pioneers of zombie flicks had to be in “Dead Island 2”. While this one is more obvious, it’s still worth mentioning. George Romero is often credited as the “Godfather of the Dead” thanks to his work on iconic zombie movies like “Night of the Living Dead” and “Dawn of the Dead”. In “Dead Island 2” The Romeros are an award show akin to the Oscars. Even the award is modeled after a zombie's hand. This is a great nod to a zombie legend that inspired many.

Who Do You Voodoo

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

Another nod to the first “Dead Island”, Sam B’s hit song is mentioned through “Dead Island 2”. Before Sam B became the zombie slayer we met in “Dead Island 2”, he was actually a famous rapper. Sam B may be a one hit wonder with his song “Who Do You Voodoo” which we hear in the intro of the first “Dead Island”. Like most one hit wonders most people in the game know the song and it gets refenced a good bit. The song was so popular that even the old man Curtis knows it.

Game On

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

It’s alway cool to see developers hide their old games in their new ones. There seem to be a lot of arcades in HELL-A and some are references to classics while two are real games. You can see a machine that is clearly “Dance Dance Revolution” and the arcade Dripper - a spin on “Tapper”. We also see an amazing arcade cabinet for “TimeSplitters” and only enough “Homefront: The Revolution”, despite the game being one of Deeps Silver's worst games to date. Odd they went with that stinker, but hey, someone had to show respect to Dambusters Studios!

Hype House

“Dead Island 2” (2023)

Even in the apocalypse we need influencers… well not really, but they’re here in zombie form. Early in the game we stumble upon an influencer house full of sets and stream setups. This one house is full of great easter eggs. For starters we can see awards for milestones, similar to YouTubes Play Buttons. However the best and quite possibly the funniest easter egg has to be the apology script. Influencers are known for phoning in their apology videos, often feeling fake and scripted. Well it turns out these influencers never got to make theirs, but it seems like they would have hit all the right points with woe is me and crying for sympathy.
