How to Get The Cheapest Flights Every Time When it comes to booking travel, you know there are always deals to be had. Welcome to MojoTravels and today we're counting down our picks for the How to Get The Cheapest Flights Every Time. Today we’ll be giving you a step by step guide on how to ensure that you never overpay for a flight again. STEP #1: Be Flexible on Your Travel Dates One of the most important things you can do when it comes to getting affordable flights happens before you even log onto your web browser. That’s because one of the factors that has the biggest influence on the price of your flight is the day you are travelling. So if you book your vacation off from work before you find a great flight, you’ll be locked in to flying on specific dates. That’s not ideal because the more flexible you are, the more likely you are to find a great deal. There are lots of myths out there like that say that it’s cheapest to fly on a certain day of the week, but you can probably ignore those since there isn’t much consistent evidence to back those claims up. STEP #2: Start Browsing If you’ve been on the internet lately, you’ve probably noticed how prevalent targeted ads have become. Clearly, your browser is tracking every move you make online, and sharing your info with advertisers. Some say that this can affect the prices of your flights, causing the cost to go up once you have searched a certain flight once or twice. To avoid this, switch on private browsing before you begin your search. Then, you want to start with a great flight search engine. In 2018, the most popular and trusted choice seems to be Skyscanner, though there are lots of competitors that can work for you too. In fact, your best bet is to search using multiple different search engines to ensure you’re not missing out on any great deals. And some people forget that you should also check individual airline’s actual websites for deals that may not appear elsewhere. You can also research local, regional airlines that may not appear in the bigger search engines. STEP #3: Be Flexible with Your Destination Once you’ve chosen some search engines, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to make them work best for you. First is using a “flexible dates” tool so you can see which days seem to have the cheapest flights. And just like being flexible with dates, you can also be flexible with your locations. Don’t automatically put in a city’s largest airport - you can sometimes find cheaper flights if you go for a smaller airport or one in a nearby area. And hey, if you know you want to vacation in the Central America but don’t have a specific destination in mind, you can be even more flexible with your destination, picking the place that is cheapest to fly into. STEP #4: Set Up a Price Alert If you’re not able to be flexible with your travel dates or locations, don’t despair; there are other options for you. Let’s say you’re travelling for a wedding so the days you have to fly are set in stone; you can set yourself up a price alert. Lots of different search engines offer this option, and it can be really helpful in showing you if prices are trending up or down. Keep in mind, though, that flights tend to get more expensive rather than less expensive as you get closer to your travel dates, so don’t bank on prices eventually dropping. STEP #5: Tweak Your Search The conventional wisdom is that you should book round trip tickets in order to get the best deal. But times have changed, and most of the time that’s not necessary anymore. You can sometimes save money by booking your flights separately, and using different airlines for each direction. This mix and match technique can seem like more work, but if you’re going to end up saving hundreds of dollars, it’s surely worth it. Open jaw routes can also work for you, if you’re planning a longer trip and would like to fly into one city but out of another. Another trick to keep in mind is to always search for flights as a single flyer- even if you’ll be travelling with others. Sometimes the search engines choose the highest ticket price for the group and show that one when in fact there are cheaper flights available. STEP #6: Unconventional Means Sometimes you have to step outside the box to find the best deals. Following different airlines on social media can be a great way to find promotions that wouldn’t be available to you elsewhere. You can also do a deep dive and search for errors in airline prices. Everyone makes mistakes, and airlines are no exception. Sometimes human error or technical glitches cause insanely cheap prices to be posted online- typically for very short periods of time. If you can nab them while they’re up though, you’ll have a story to tell for years!
