How to Make Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
- 2-½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2-½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup cold butter, cubed
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
Directions:
1. After preheating your oven to 400°, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. You can serve these with anything from gravy to jam, but make sure you serve them warm because that’s when they’re the flakiest!
2. Now, use a pastry cutter to cut in the butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and the egg.
4. Now add the buttermilk and egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir it all together with a fork until it forms a soft dough.
5. Lightly flour your hands and shape the dough into a ball. Knead that on a lightly floured surface ten times.
6. Pat your dough until it’s about ¾ inch thick, then cut the dough into rounds using a round cutter.
7. Place these on a cookie sheet that’s lined with parchment paper, and bake them in your preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
