Back off, Civil War. He’s the captain now. Black Panther has dethroned Captain America: Civil War by setting a new record as Fandango’s biggest Marvel pre-seller of all time in the first 24 hours. Marvel dropped a new TV spot on Monday during the College Football Playoff National Championship game, which resulted in a massive surge of ticket sales. “Black Panther has been riding an incredible wave of momentum right now,” Fandango editor Erik Davis told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February…”. In a Fandango survey, 8,000 movie fans voted Black Panther as the second most anticipated film of the year, second only to another Marvel film, Avengers: Infinity War. Black Panther is set for release February 16.
Looks like Millie Bobby Brown is getting herself involved in even more mystery. According to Deadline Hollywood, the breakout Stranger Things star has recently inked a deal with Legendary Entertainment, which will see the Emmy-nominated actress not only star in, but also produce a film series based on the Enola Holmes Mysteries novel series. The young adult series written by Nancy Springer, follows the titular 14-year-old after her mother mysteriously disappears on her birthday. As the younger sister of the already-famous Sherlock Holmes, Enola sets out on an adventure to find her, while solving a number of other crimes along the way. Brown worked with Legendary before, recently finishing her work on the Godzilla sequel “King of Monsters” and will produce the Holmes trilogy through her PCMA Productions banner.
Before we get to our final entry, here are a couple new releases:
“The Post” (2017)
“The Commuter” (2018)
James Franco and Stan Lee are the latest men in Hollywood to be accused of sexual misconduct. Five women in an LA Times report, as well as Twitter, accused the Golden Globe winning actor of inappropriate behavior on set, during acting class and in personal situations, including actresses Violet Paley and Breakfast Club star, Ally Sheedy. Paley alleges that Franco pushed her head down towards his exposed penis, as well as inviting a 17-year-old to his hotel room, while Sheedy sent out vague and cryptic tweets, which have since been deleted. Franco denied any wrongdoing on late night television, and voiced support for women coming out and taking a stand, Marvel writer Stan Lee has been accused of groping and demanding oral sex from nurses. The unnamed nursing company received several complaints in regards to Lee, but his lawyer has categorically denied any and all claims and intends to fight to protect his good name.
