Goose’s legacy will live on as Miles Teller has officially earned the role of his son in the sequel to the famous ‘80s action film, Top Gun. Teller will star alongside Tom Cruise, who will reprise his iconic role as the hotshot pilot, Maverick, who blamed himself for Goose’s accidental death. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Miles faced stiff competition, beating out popular actors like Nicholas Hoult and Glen Powell. Joseph Kosinski will direct the film, and has worked with Cruise on the 2013 sci-fi film, Oblivion. In an interview with CominSoon.net, Kosinski said that “The navy is very different now than it was in 1986”, referring to the fact that the United States had not been to war in 20 years at that point. Kosinski mentions that now, with the USA being at war for 20 years, that the Navy is in “a different world now, so you can’t remake the first movie.” No official synopsis has been released, but word is that Cruise’s character will mentor Teller’s.
Lady Bird has really given actor-director Greta Gerwig the opportunity to fly. For her sophomore directing effort, Gerwig will be tackling Louisa May Alcott’s famous novel, Little Women. And she’s looking to bring in some massive talent. Emma Stone, Timothy Chalamet, and Saoirse Ronan are all in talks to star, with Meryl Streep officially signing on as Aunt March in the latest film adaptation. Both Ronan and Chalamet worked with Gerwig on Lady Bird. While the idea of Gerwig working with all these talented actors is very exciting, the decision to remake the film has raised some eyebrows. Six films have already been adapted from the novel, with a seventh being released this year. The coming-of-age story centers on four sisters and their mother in Massachusetts, set during the Civil War era.

If Scarlett Johansson’s casting of Motoko Kusanagi in 2017’s Ghost in the Shell made waves, then her latest casting decision has caused a tsunami. The Golden Globe-nominated actor has stirred up more backlash after accepting the role of a trans man in the upcoming film Rub & Tug; the real-life story of Dante “Tex” Gill who operated a prostitution business and massage parlor in the ‘70s and ‘80s. The online community was quick to criticize the cisgender actor, saying that the role should have gone to a transgender actor instead. Recent films like Tangerine and A Fantastic Woman, whose premises include transgender characters, have all featured transgender actors. But in response, Johansson instead decided to focus on films that didn’t feature them. In a statement sent to Bustle.com, Johansson said “Tell them they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.” – a reference to other cisgender actors who’ve played transgender characters. Adding more fuel to the fire is the fact that Rupert Sanders is directing, the same man who directed Johansson in Ghost in the Shell.
