VOICE OVER: Miranda Lightstone
First revealed in 2008 as a concept at the North American International Auto Show, the Lincoln MKT is a luxury crossover. The crossover market has really taken off over the past few years, and Lincoln jumped on the bandwagon with their MKT, a vehicle that's both stylish and practical. And featuring new gas efficient technology, it's also friendly to the environment. After a week behind the wheel, we think this ride is definitely something we'd have parked in our driveway. In this video, http://www.WatchMojo.com checks out this luxury vehicle to see if it's worth the price.
Design
The look of the Lincoln MKT is decidedly gangster. The super-big front grille with exaggerated chromed slates brings to mind images of ‘40s style gangsters cruising down the streets of Boston. And somehow it works with the car. It’s intimidating without being offensive.
Inside, the layout and space of the MKT is also impressive. The cockpit is well laid out and, despite the small size of the buttons on the middle console, aesthetically pleasing. With an 8” touchscreen and steering-wheel mounted buttons, everything is at your fingertips.
The Lincoln MKT also comes with a third row of seats in the back, which is fantastic if you have four children or lots of dogs. I would not recommend asking full-size adults to sit back there. It is a very tight fit. However, putting up the seats and taking them down is quite simple. And once that third row is stowed away nicely, you have ample room in the trunk.
Drive
Driving the Lincoln MKT is quite pleasant -- I’m not sure that’s how a car company would want to have their drive experience explained, but it’s true. Equipped with a 3.7-liter V6, the Lincoln MKT has 268 horsepower and 267 lb-ft. of torque. But if you bring home a Lincoln MKT, you’re not really concerned about the power it has. What you are concerned about is the ease with which you can drive it, and the fuel-saving gadgets it has; and it has quite a few.
The Lincoln MKT is outfitted with a 2-speed fuel pump, aggressive deceleration fuel shut-off, optimized transmission and final gear driving to help you save money at the pumps. And all those gadgets mean the Lincoln MKT has an estimated 24 MPG rating, which is pretty impressive for a crossover of its size.
This crossover also features an Active Park Assist. This nifty little bit of kit will find a parking spot for you and parallel park itself as well. It’s also interesting to note that the Lincoln MKT Active Park Assist works in uphill parking situations and it was the first car to do that.
