PlayStation has featured some pretty weird unlockables for those who wanted to search. For this list, we’re looking at some of the most bizarre and strangest unlockables in our favorite PlayStation games. Our countdown includes Penta Penguin from "Crash Team Racing" (1999), Gon in "Tekken 3" (1997), the final costume in "Marvel's Spider-Man" (2018), and more! Did you nab any of these unlockables? The franchise may have abandoned the component long ago, but we still hold fond memories of “Ratchet & Clank’s” explosive multiplayer matches. In addition to the destructive weapons, each game had a wide selection of skins to choose from. Some were based on enemies and bosses from the main campaign while others were made just to be a bit goofy. However, the weirdest skin of them all is none other than Jak from Naughty Dog’s “Jak & Daxter” franchise. He just has a different aesthetic than the Lombax, so while it was cool to see this small crossover, it was still a tad bizarre.
With Jak being a skin in some of “Ratchet & Clank’s” multiplayers, it was only a matter of time before we saw some reciprocation. The only way to see this for yourself however is if you own not just “Jak X Combat Racing”, but “Ratchet: Deadlocked” as well. (PS4 owners that have “Jak X” will need a save file of the 2016 remake of “Ratchet & Clank”.) If you have a save file for “Deadlocked” on your PS2, go into the “Extras” menu of “Jak X” and select “Scan for Secret Characters”. Now you can blow up enemy racers as our favorite Galactic Ranger. Again, awesome to see a PlayStation crossover here, but it feels a bit empty without a certain ring-tailed thief to reunite the PS2 trio of mascots.
In order to access this “bonus stage”, you’ll need to have reached a number of requirements across the main six stages. Finish Stage One with three thousand points and a Cool rating, Stage Two with flashing Cool rating, Stages Three and Four on a Good rating with at least two thousand points, Stage Five with four thousand points and a Cool rating, and Stage Six with a Cool rating and two thousand points. Yes, it’s all very meticulous, and what do you get for doing this? A stage where Sunny Funny and Katy Kat are dancing. You don’t do anything except watch them dance and change their clothes. The taste of victory is certainly an odd sense here.
Much like unlocking Ratchet in “Jak X Combat Racing”, you’ll need to have not just a “Monster Rancher” game, but a copy of one of the “Dead Or Alive” games depending on which PlayStation console you’re on. See, one of the cool parts about “Monster Rancher” was that removing its disc and putting in a completely different one will sometimes net you rare monsters. In this case, putting in a copy of “Dead Or Alive 2: Hardcore” will unlock Kasumi in “Monster Rancher 4”. While we understand both franchises are from Koei Tecmo, what makes her cameo weird is how the game will occasionally refer to her sex appeal. Isn’t this supposed to be a game aimed at kids?
You know how Yoda broke “Soulcalibur IV”? Well, the same thing happened here in “Tekken 3”. All you have to do to access this tiny dino is beat him in Tekken Bowl or get a high enough score in Survival mode. While Gon has his own limits in range and power, he has an incredibly small hurtbox and can practically ignore most high attacks. But what makes him weird is how he has no relation to “Tekken” outside of this and a brief cameo in the 1995 animated film, “Tekken: The Motion Picture”. Fans have asked series director Katsuhiro Harada for Gon’s return, but he has quickly swatted those requests down.
The 2018 PS4 hit was praised for its wide selection of costumes for Spidey, each one granting him different abilities to use in combat. Though, there was one that remained a mystery until we fully completed the game. Upon reaching one hundred percent completion, you will unlock the best costume in the whole game - your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man…in his boxers. Now, you can do a new playthrough of Spidey half-naked the entire time! Only one caveat with his suit power: once activated Pete can defeat enemies with one hit, BUT he can also die in one hit. Yeah, you basically found yourself a pair of tighty-whities and a new difficulty mode.
The “Katamari” series is already a weird collection of games with its wacky humor and odd visual style. Adding to the weirdness, though, are the Prince’s cousins. As you roll up many of the Earth’s objects, terrain, and inhabitants, you might stumble across a cousin or two. They may appear in simple shapes and sizes while others are a bit more odd. We’re talking elongated limbs, tennis ball bodies, living mushrooms, heads of ramen. As strange as they may seem, they do add a bit of charm to every game, and it’s part of the reason why we’d like to see the franchise come back in full force.
The only way to access this cuddly bird is by inputting a cheat code. While in CTR’s main menu, hold down L1 and R1 and push down, right, triangle, down, left, triangle, and up. Even though you have the only character with maxed out stats, Penta is also the only character with unfinished assets. As you race, you may occasionally experience some visual glitches or hear the voice of programmer Gavin James saying “Penguin Yay One” or “Penguin Yay Two”. This was placeholder audio to make sure the line would trigger, but because Penta was added late in the game’s development, our feathered friend was never finished.
The “Twisted Metal” franchise already has a strange selection of psychopaths and criminals, but there was a point where everything was going to get a lot weirder. During development of the cancelled “Twisted Metal: Black 2”, there was a vehicle to be included called 12-Pak with a driver named Severed Sam. We would not get a glimpse of these two until the PS2 port of “Head-On”. Your eyes do not deceive you. This is a stock car being driven by a headless man. Even in the world of “Twisted Metal”, this was pretty far fetched.
Kratos can be described as many things - a raging tornado, anger incarnate, a dad with a beard. However, we never took him for a fashionista. Yes, the “God of War” games feature handfuls of costumes to unlock, and there are some hilariously bizarre costumes for Kratos to don. Dress up the Ghost of Sparta as a fish, a cow, a chef, or even a potato and slay your foes while looking totally ridiculous. No matter your preference, we can all agree that Kratos needs a bigger wardrobe for the next game. Any chance we can get some onesie pajamas or a bunny costume for him?

In addition to the destructive weapons, each game had a wide selection of skins to choose from. Some were based on enemies and bosses from the main campaign while others were made just to be a bit goofy. #8: The Bonus “Stage”

#7: Kasumi
“Monster Rancher” series (1997-)Much like unlocking Ratchet in “Jak X Combat Racing”, you’ll need to have not just a “Monster Rancher” game, but a copy of one of the “Dead Or Alive” games depending on which PlayStation console you’re on. #5: Undies Mode
“Marvel’s Spider-Man” (2018)The 2018 PS4 hit was praised for its wide selection of costumes for Spidey, each one granting him different abilities to use in combat. #4: The Cousins
“Katamari Damacy” series (2004-)The “Katamari” series is already a weird collection of games with its wacky humor and odd visual style. Adding to the weirdness, though, are the Prince’s cousins. #2: 12-Pak
“Twisted Metal: Head-On - Extra Twisted Edition” (2005)The “Twisted Metal” franchise already has a strange selection of psychopaths and criminals, but there was a point where everything was going to get a lot weirder.
