Top 10 Accidental Kisses In Anime

#10: Sunako and Kyohei
“The Wallflower” (2006-07)
Hey, ping pong is an intense sport, you never know what can happen in the heat of the moment! Dragged off to the hot springs, Sunako’s attempts to give her friends the chance to be alone goes off on a bit of a tangent when she and Kyohei find themselves engaged in a bitter table tennis brawl. However, instead of landing a cross-court, the beauty-hating belle accidentally launches herself across the table, and as such the two end up in very different kind of deuce.
#9: Cinque and Éclair
“Dog Days” (2011-15)
Doesn’t matter if they’re furry or humanoid – cats will always cause mischief, including the kind that leads to an unexpected case of kissing. While trying to hunt down a rogue cat deity, the dog kingdom’s lone human and its doggo captain of the guard find themselves in a rather compromised position. With but a simple gesture, the derpy cat god causes the two to latch onto each other in a rather frisky manner, one that we can only imagine left Éclair’s tail unwilling wagging.
#8: Natsu and Happy
“Fairy Tail” (2009-19)
They’re the best of buddies, though we doubt the Salamander and his winged cat were eager to take their friendship this far. In what probably left plenty of Nalu shippers reeling in agony, it appeared that Fairy Tail’s most obvious pairing were about to finally lock lips at the behest of Asuka – only for Lucy to get cold feet at the last second and throw Happy in to take one for the team. We’re not sure who suffered the most here, but it’s clear there were zero winners!
#7: Everyone
“Urusei Yatsura” (1981-86)
You’d think that a hapless perv like Ataru would have at least made an effort to kiss his alien bride to be, but apparently not. Consumed by her despair at the lack of physical affection from her future hubby, Lum creates a lipstick whose magic properties cause whoever wears it to be pulled towards each other for maximum smooch-ness. Naturally, this goes horribly awry when the entire school ends up with it on their faces, causing the likes of everyone to get a mouthful by the end – the standout being a surprise yuri moment between Ryuunosuke and Shinobu.
#6: Kazuya and Nonoka
“PhotoKano” (2013)
It may have been based off a lacklustre dating game, but that doesn’t mean this anime can’t have a few fun moments along the way – like when this omnibus harem member decided it would be a great idea to run down the stairs so hard she practically sent herself flying down at mach speed. She probably should have looked before leaping though, since she not only ends up crashing into the wayward protagonist midfall, but as you might have guessed, does so lips first! If anything, it’s impressive that she didn’t knock his ass out!
#5: Naota and Haruko
“FLCL” (2000-01)
What we have here is literally a case of mouth saying no but body saying yes via a dimensional gateway cranium. Yeah, it’s as weird as it sounds. After ending up in a rather compromising position with the ever flirtatious Haruko, Naota does his best to try and get out of it, insisting he’s not interested in the galactic cop. At least until the back of his head suddenly creates a jack that pushes him all the way up, leaving the two of them caught in a rather risqué docking procedure!
#4: Nariyuki and Rizu
“We Never Learn” (2019)
It may not have been the most stylish way for Naruyuki to lose his k-card, but he could certainly do a lot worse than locking lips with the infinitely adorable Rizu. After getting lost during a downpour in a vast woodland, the busty genius is finally saved when her beloved student-mentor locates her. Unfortunately for them, getting her down from her little perch proves to be less than smooth. With nature itself playing matchmaker, the ground proves so unstable and slippery that it sends Rizu hurtling into the unassuming mouth of her saviour.
#3: Shinka and Sanae
“Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions” (2012-14)
Was it the kiss we had all been waiting for? Not exactly, but it was sweet in its own hilarious way. As their Christmas party comes to a close, a rather inebriated Sanae gets a bit too full of herself and nearly knocks Rikka off of the boat. For a moment it looks like her and Yuta have finally taken that step forward, only for everyone to realise than in actuality, the only one getting any action is Sanae, who in her clumsiness tripped onto her nemesis Shinka, resulting in an unexpected Christmas gift, minus the mistletoe.
#2: Naruto and Sasuke
“Naruto” (2002-07)
For a ninja, you’d think they’d have better balance. In what’s supposed to be a stare down between two rival shinobi in training, a sudden knock from behind launches the crouching Naruto forward, where he finds himself unwillingly kissing on the last Uchiha. It’s an iconic piece of shounen comedy, one that not only sends all the girls in class into an angry frenzy, but also ignited a whole slew of yaoi fans back in the day. Too bad this unwarranted canoodle didn’t stop them from nearly killing each other at the Valley of the End.
#1: Haruhi and Kanako
“Ouran High School Host Club” (2006)
A host must always be willing to cater to their guest, though this might be considered going above and beyond the call of duty. After the Ouran Host Club assist a pair of betrotheds reaffirm their affections at the school dance, tradition demands that the nominated Queen must receive a peck from a chosen host. See where this is going? What was originally meant to be a harmless gesture escalates rather quickly when Tamaki’s interference inadvertently causes the two to go all in, forever ruining his chances of taking Haruhi’s first kiss for himself.
