Top 10 Actors Who NEED to Be Cast in Rom Coms
#10: Pedro Pascal
The best rom-coms are the ones that take us on emotional rollercoasters. There’s no better person to star in this type of film than Pedro Pascal. During his breakout years, we were gobsmacked by his portrayal of Oberyn Martell in “Game of Thrones.” We could literally feel the passion radiating off of him. Although the latter was a more serious role, he was a comedic king hosting “Saturday Night Live.” He even got nominated for a comedy award for his performance. Clearly the man has range. His acting would be perfect for a male lead in a more lighthearted movie. Fingers crossed we see him in one soon!
#9: Lewis Pullman
Picture this: a bad boy drummer is onstage performing with his group. Suddenly, he makes eye contact with the movie protagonist and sparks fly. Who wouldn’t want to watch that? Luckily for us, Pullman just happens to be in a band IRL. He can copy and paste his skills right into an angsty rom-com! If that isn’t your cup of tea, what about a remake of “While You Were Sleeping?” We’re owed a modernized version of a classic romance flick right about now. Did we mention that Pullman’s father was the OG lead in the film? How cute would it be for Lewis to take on his dad’s role?
#8: John Cho
While many may know him for popularizing the term “MILF,” there’s much more to this guy than that. How has this charming lad not graced our screens in a romantic flick? Yeah sure, we got a taste of his charisma in the show “Selfie” but that ended too quickly! Hollywood is sleeping on this talented man! As of 2023 Cho said he hadn’t gotten many rom-com offers after the series got canceled. We can’t believe our eyes. Everyone loved him in the ABC show, we’re sure they’d appreciate him even more in a romance film. Who do we need to talk to in order to get this actor cast ASAP?
#7: Andrew Scott
We adored him as the priest in “Fleabag.” Yes, there are romantic moments between his character and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s, but we want more. The drama “All of Us Strangers” got us closer, but still not quite what we’re looking for. We want to see him joyful and with a fluffy happily-ever-after. Scott has a really strong theater background. It would be awesome to see his dramatic flair in a rom-com! Imagine watching the third act break up with his energy. Audience members would be emotionally wrecked! Scott brings so much to every part he plays; let him pour all that into a fun romance already.
#6: Daniel Kaluuya
“Get Out” is one of the best films of this century. Kaluuya’s performance contributed hugely to its massive success. Jordan Peele’s thriller is definitely a tough act to follow, but we’re begging writers to put this man in a cozy film! Unlike in his serious roles, he’s super sweet and hilarious in interviews. We want to see that joy on the big screen! If he’s charming us in these videos, imagine how hard we’d fall for him as a male lead in a comedy. He’s also a die-hard Arsenal fan. How cute would it be to see him channel that passion into a sports romance?
#5: Dave Bautista
This man led many lives before his acting career, ranging from a nightclub bouncer to a professional wrestler. So he’s got the experience to bring any character to life. We all saw his impeccable comedic timing in “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Cheesy rom-coms are all about the energy the actors bring to the table. As an athlete, he’s got plenty of energy to go around. He could play the misunderstood bad boy, or a giant with a heart of gold. While his Marvel character is a hoot and a holler, we’d love to see him play a softer role. Plus, he could introduce romantic flicks to his action-loving fans. Sounds like a win-win to us!
#4: Andrew Garfield
As Peter Parker, he had us swooning the entire time. He executed the boy-next-door trope amazingly and his performance in the franchise catapulted him into international level fame. Even in his other flicks, he possessed such a distinct vulnerability. Just look at “The Social Network.” Audiences were mesmerized by the emotional layer he added to the film. We haven’t even touched on the best part about this Englishman. He is an absolute sweetie pie in interviews. C’mon who can forget when he compared Emma Stone to “a shot of espresso?” Maybe Garfield hasn’t starred in many rom-coms because his personal life IS a romantic movie.
#3: Ben Barnes
Team General Kirigan or Team Mal? Team Ben Barnes for the win. Watching him onscreen makes us really believe the eyes are the windows to the soul. The way he stares down his enemies in “Shadow and Bone” has our hearts racing. He’d be absolutely perfect in a grumpy-sunshine book adaptation. He already has the brooding eyes and the intense vibes locked down. Barnes is also a talented musician in his personal life. Obviously, what’s this popular rom-com trope without the MC’s softer side? Add that to all the other qualities we mentioned and boom! You got yourself a blockbuster in the making.
#2: Dev Patel
He has starred in several Oscar-nominated movies, but why are none of them a cute rom-com? His roles in “Modern Love” and “The Personal History of David Copperfield” dabbled in romance. So we know he’d already be great as the male lead. But an episode of a TV show and a subplot in a movie simply won’t suffice. Patel would make the most adorable golden retriever boyfriend. Remember his passionate character in “Slumdog Millionaire”? Exactly! This actor simply knows how to embody different personalities. He knows how to bring characters to life. We can totally see him channeling all his past roles in a future film.

#1: Paul Mescal
Even this actor has said that he wants to star in a rom-com! Why hasn’t it happened yet? Mescal blew us away with his performance in “Normal People.” The show was based on the beloved book by Sally Rooney and portraying a main character in a book to screen adaptation is not easy. Luckily, Paul’s acting was amazing. What does this mean for us romance lovers? He should 100% star in a fun comedy this time! He and fellow actress Ayo Edebiri already have the terrific chemistry for being rom-com leads. The two have agreed to play opposite each other if they were cast in one. What’s the issue? Let’s make it happen people!
