#10: Taste The Soup! “Coming To America” (1988)
Kicking things off is the surprise at the very end of this comedy about an African Prince going undercover in New York to find a down to earth life-mate. The gag in this film is that Eddie Murphy doesn't just play the main character, but also dons makeup to play a handful of other characters throughout the film. Thus, interrupting the credits is Eddie’s rather convincing elderly Jewish character cutting in to deliver a throaty joke.
#9: Awkward Silence “Anchorman” (2004)
After the adventures of Ron Burgundy and his news team rap up, the audience is treated to a credits sequence packed with outtakes. But, as if that were enough, what follows that is a post credit scene in which the team are shown laughing and talking about the joys of being number one, something the WatchMojo team is guilty of all too often. Of course, the fun always ends with awkward silence.
#8: Taxi Patron “Airplane!” (1980)
In this classic disaster movie parody, a shell-shocked ex-fighter pilot turned cabbie decides to rush to board a flight on which his ex-girlfriend is working as a flight attendant. Once onboard, an unfortunate food poisoning incident leaves the flight crew ill, and’s he is forced to save the day. Hilariously, that guy he just picked up in his cab at the very beginning is shown to still be waiting in the cab after the credits wrap up!
#7: Mustafa Survives “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” (1999)
Oh look, some more Will Ferrell! This time he makes us laugh as the fez wearing henchman that is interrogated by Austin, before being shot by mini-me by a blow dart, falling off a cliff and breaking both of his legs in the process! A running gag continued from the original film thanks to time travel, the post credit fun reveals that he didn’t die after all…
#6: Milkshake Dance “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” (2004)
There’s few things as cathartic as seeing the bad guy whine after his defeat. Here, Ben Stiller’s White Goodman, the dimwitted fitness buff with a secret love of food, is shown to have relapsed into his old ways. Having put on weight, he uses he time during the credits to mocks the movie’s predictable plot. Stick around until the very end and he even throws in a dance!
#5: Bill Murray “Zombieland” (2009)
This zombie horror comedy is remembered in part for its epic, albeit short cameo by Bill Murray. While his quirky role as himself disguised as a zombie hearkened back to Ghostbusters, it was the Caddy Shack fans given the service after the credits when the film randomly cut back to his protracted death scene.
#4: Building Explosion “Lethal Weapon 3” (1992)
This entry in the buddy cop series began with Riggs and Murtaugh haphazardly going in to defuse a bomb, only to end up running away! Cashing in on that outrageous gag again, the post credits showcase the pair pulling up at a hotel only to debate trying their luck with red and blue wires again. When the place goes up, they speed off before they’re tied to another explosive fail! Isn’t catastrophic terrorism hilarious?
#3: When Do We Leave? “Wayne’s World” (1992)
This hilarious comedy about two pals shooting their own public access show was not one to go quietly… well sort of! Not just giving us multiple endings, letting the viewer pick their favorite, those who stuck around caught Wayne and Garth just sitting around on the couch reading magazines. Hilariously, they were just as confused as the rest of us!
#2: Shawarma “The Avengers” (2012)
Fans of Marvel movies know to always stay after the credits for a bonus. In this case, it’s all for sheer entertainment value, showcasing the superhero team making good on Stark’s idea of getting some well-earned Shawarma. Interestingly, this wasn’t even shot until after The Avengers premiered in LA. The laughs come from the lack of dialogue, emphasizing how tired the heroes were from battle, and how unimpressed they were with their lunch.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
#1: Go Home “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986)
Taking the top spot on our list is the iconic scene from this iconic flick about a teen cutting class. Appearing after credits already showcased the principle catching a ride on a school bus following his devastating day of defeat, Ferris breaks the forth wall yet again while in the middle of unwinding. Hilariously, it’s only to show confusion as to why anyone would keep on watching at this point.
