#10: “Kill La Kill” (2013-14)

Top 10 Hardest to Kill Anime Characters

Ryuko Matoi is a girl on a mission: enter Honouji Academy and find the person who killed her father. Seems pretty basic on the surface. But you’ll forget about that once you really get into Kill la Kill. Ryuko’s search for the truth and her subsequent adventures is one of the most vibrant and lively Anime to come out in a long time. The action is highly entertaining and moves at a pace as rapid as the actual story. Plus, those costumes. Seriously, one glance of Ryuko or Satsuki Kiryuin in their Goku uniforms and you’ll probably be hooked. But what appears shallow on the surface is actually pretty darned engaging – No surprise coming from Studio Trigger.

#9: “Kaiji” (2007-08)

Believe it or not, there are Anime that center around gambling. Kaiji is one of the top tier titles in this genre. When Itou Kaiji is saddled with a debt left to him by a co-worker, he finds himself forced to play games on a boat. The endgame is simple, win and clear your debt or fall deeper into it and have to work it off. The world of degenerate gambling has never been this intense. From Rock, Paper, Scissors to the death to a death race across a tightrope, this series knows how to make the simplest games incredibly deadly…and yet exciting to watch from episode to episode. Well worth the time to binge.

#8: “Watamote” (2013)

Ever feel stuck, unable to get something off your chest, or drawn to Anime and dating sims to escape life? Meet your long lost counterpart Tomoko Kuroki, who just wants to be popular in school but finds herself unable to talk to other human beings. Filled with dark humor, thanks in no small part to the many facial expressions of Tomoko herself, Watamote is a slice of life Anime that viewers will find themselves drawn to in unexpected ways. Are you rooting for Tomoko to come out of her shell or excited to see what kind of pratfalls she’ll get into next? Short in length and full of laughs, Watamote is an easy one-night binge watch.

#7: “Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)

At first glance, Madoka Magica may look like your average, Magical Girl Anime. But by the end of the first episode, you know you’re watching something very different. The series is actually a cleverly thought out deconstruction of the genres made famous by the likes of Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon. While boasting gorgeous visuals, Madoka’s tragic storyline is what keeps us raring for the next episode. It’s almost hard to watch all the heartache, yet harder to look way. In only 12 episodes, you’d think there wouldn’t be enough time to pack in a tight story with strong character development, heart wrenching moments and stellar action…but you’d be wrong.

#6: “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” (2006-08)

Also in:

Code Geass Vs Death Note

Blessed with the power of Geass, the ability to make others do what he demands, Lelouch vi Britannia wages war against his father, the King of Britannia, disguised as a terrorist named Zero. The plot of Code Geass is a bit denser than that. However, it’s also lightning fast, ensuring you will be entertained episode after episode. Whether it’s the genius of Lelouch’s tactics, the stylish and fun mecha battles, or the last minute revelations before the episodes end, this Anime has got you locked in your seat throughout. Need further proof, be sure to at least get through the end of Season One, which is considered to be one of the best cliffhangers in Anime.

#5: “Fate/Zero” (2011-12)

From the get go, Fate/Zero, the prequel to the popular Fate/Stay Night series, grabs your attention with its crisp and colorful animation, courtesy of powerhouse studio Ufotable. The binge value comes from the gorgeous action scenes and the time delegated to exploring the psyches of each mage and servant. In this dark and gritty entry of the fate series, we see just how high the stakes are in the Holy Grail War. The plot-twists, and seeing just how far each combatant is willing to go to achieve victory, will keep you jumping from one episode to the next as soon as the credits begin. If you ever wanted to get into the Fate/Stay franchise, this is your perfect starting point.

#4: “Death Note” (2006-07)
