Top 10 AWESOME Video Game Powers We Wish Were Real

There’s no denying that Sub-Zero is one cool customer, largely due to his ability to freeze anything in his path with a vast array of ice-based moves; whether they be projectiles, constructs or weapons. Granted we probably wouldn’t use them in quite the same way as the Lin-Kuei Grandmaster, since most of us don’t tend to freeze people to death with a fatality. However, being immune to the sting of winter and be able to literally give someone you hate the cold shoulder would be awesome.

A set of abilities genetically native to the Asari race, being born with the powers of a Biotic means that you’ve got some pretty far-out mass effect altering tricks up your sleeve. A welcome boost to any Spectre or Pathfinder, the offensive and defensive capabilities in a combat setting are enormous. Whether it’s creating vast barriers, summoning all manner of projectiles and shockwaves, even manipulating gravity to send enemies flying, a well-trained Biotic is the truest definition of a one man army. Think of all the Force-related puns you could make!

To operate as a master assassin inside the corrupt city of Dunwall takes the skills that only a veteran like Corvo Attano could possess. That…and the unholy powers granted by a freaky deity known as the Outsider. In this case, travelling over short distances becomes a breeze thanks to the teleportation of Blink. Swopping in on a target, executing a last minute escape or just leaping around rooftops like a total badass, if the mask didn’t make Dunwall’s most wanted seem otherworldly, then this little parlour trick makes him seem like a full on demon.

Forgoing the process of dicing up Little Sisters in order to fund the Adam needed to inject ourselves with these super-powered steroids…in fact just forget the whole grizzly backstory altogether. Point is these Plasmids kick ass. Kind of handy whenever you have to deal with Splicers and Big Daddies at every turn. Whether it’s busting out the ever so popular Electro Bolt, Incinerate and Winter Blast to cause some elemental havoc, using the always handy Telekinesis to send Andrew Ryan’s cronies flying back, or if you are really desperate recreate the Not The Bees scene with Insect Swarm.

This one goes without saying, since defying the laws of physics is pretty much what having superpowers is all about. Granted, using Kat’s abilities as a shifter won’t allow you to fly around the world as slickly as Superman, since she can only alter the fundamentals of gravity in a specific direction. Then again you are still flying through the air at mach speed and walking up walls, so sign us up. Creating stasis field and summoning miniature black holes are just the cherries on top.

As any fan of the series can tell you, Link comes equipped with a whole lot of weapons and items that make traversing the land of Hyrule an epic journey like no other. But there’s been no ability that we’ve enjoyed exploiting in a Zelda game quite as much as Revali’s Gale, wherein our mute hero manages to cause updrafts that allow him to shoot up high into the skies, for a smooth glide when combined with his signature paraglider. It may not be the first time Link has manipulated air currents, but in terms of the amount of fun we’ve had, you bet can we’re all too eager to break wind like Link.

After seeing what this re-imagining has in store for us, we couldn’t help but include it on our list. After being experimented on by the alien menace known as Typhon, Morgan Yu finds themselves imbued with extraordinary abilities that they’ll need to implement in order to survive on the compromised station of Talos 1. This includes the power to shape shift into a variety of objects in order to evade enemies and squeeze through tight spaces. The twist on this? You can become a mug, a chair, a kettle and even a freaking banana. Truly, you have not felt the full range of gaming pleasures until you have turned yourself into a bag of chips to squeeze through a door.

Specifically we’re looking at the point in the franchise when Adam Jensen took over as the shades-wearing poster boy, and brought with him a whole slew of technological wonders. Since nearly everyone in this dystopian future has some kind of cybernetic replacements, it’s to be expected that both lethal and non-lethal additions would be added for our lead to exploit. Everything from enhanced speed, instant hacking, becoming invisible, turning skin into armour, and of course the ever so handy ‘punch through walls’ modification. The future can’t get here quick enough.

Have you ever had those moments where you wish more than anything you could just undo a past mistake, wishing you could rewind time at the tip of a hat? Well, the Prince doesn’t have to worry about all that since he’s armed with the one weapon capable of doing so. With the hilt of the dagger containing trace amount of the legendary time-altering sand, one can move faster than any foe, freeze time, rewind time and even see glimpses of the future. Where do we get one of those?!

It may be slightly ridiculous in design, but given that it grants you the power of flight, looking like a giant squirrel is the least of our concerns. One of Mario’s most handy power-up outfits, this costume holds the potential to make its wearer a genuine superhero. Need to take out an army of Koopas? Tanooki Suit. Running incredibly late for work? Tanooki Suit Need to make a quick trip to the store for some milk? Tanooki Suit. Admit it, if given the chance you would take every opportunity to bust it out and take to the skies, fluffy tail or not. Oh and you can turn into a statue because … why not?
