Top 10 Best Barbie Songs

Top 10 Best Barbie Songs
VOICE OVER: Emily Brayton WRITTEN BY: Jaye Beekhuis
These "Barbie" songs are equally plastic and fantastic. For this list, we'll be looking at the most iconic tunes from animated Barbie movies and/or their soundtracks. Our countdown includes "All For One," "Free," "Shine," and more!

#10: “All For One”
“Barbie and the Three Musketeers” (2009)

In this retelling of the classic French novel, Barbie plays Corinne, a teenager who’s determined to prove that girls can be musketeers. After she gets to Paris, she takes a job at the palace. There, she finds out that some of the other maids share her adventurous dream. After becoming fast friends, the girls dance along to this Barbie battle cry with swords, fans, and ribbons. The song’s lyrics make one thing clear: they aren’t just damsels in distress. And in a fashion fitting for a song about teamwork, the cat also joins in!

#9: “You’re the One”
“Barbie & Her Sisters in a Pony Tale” (2013)

In this more modern “Barbie” film, the classic show tune is swapped out for a catchy electro-pop hit. “You’re the One” comes at a turning point in the story, after Barbie finally makes contact with a beautiful horse from an ancient herd that people thought only existed in fairy tales. She names her Majesty, and as the song builds, so does the scene. The duo gallop through the Alps together, with the quick tempo making it feel like we’re riding right along with them. Soaring through the air, the number makes the magical match feel like a dream come true.

#8: "Believe"
“Barbie & the Diamond Castle” (2008)

The “Barbie” movies often feature all kinds of musical beings or creatures. But best friends Liana and Alexa are taken aback when their picnic basket starts singing along in three part harmony. That’s when they meet Melody: a former Muse apprentice who’s been trapped in a mirror. She soon teaches them “Believe,” a song that “hold[s] the key.” Their voices are beautiful, but in this film, music isn’t just pretty: it’s also seriously powerful. By the end, the girls use the stellar tune to create their happily ever after. We can’t help but sing along.

#7: "Keep on Dancing"
“Barbie in the Pink Shoes” (2013)

This is one of several Barbie stories that feature the art of ballet. This time, Kristyn gets a pair of enchanted pointe shoes that transport her (and her friend) into the universe of “Giselle” and “Swan Lake.” She learns to embrace dance in a brand new way, so when it’s her turn to perform for scouts back in her world, she’s got a surprise up her sleeve. A little less than midway through her more traditional choreography, a magical costume change cues up “Keep on Dancing.” The pop song gives her ballet number a unique modern twist that makes for an inspiring final performance.

#6: “Shine”
“Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses” (2006)

While this movie is more of a ballet than a musical, it introduces another important category of Barbie music: the ending credits song. Performed by Cassidy Ladden, this track captures the whimsical magic of the film in an uplifting way. Swapping one princess for a dozen, the plot is full of dance breaks and group numbers. Just like the story, “Shine” focuses on how dance can express love, sisterhood, and inner beauty. The flick itself had a successful DVD release, and to top it all off, this song also made Barbie history when it earned a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2007. We’re not surprised.

#5: "Free"
“Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper” (2004)

When it comes to the Barbie film franchise, it’s widely acknowledged that this movie is in a league of its own, and the same is true of the music. This duet gorgeously introduces us to the characters based on Mark Twain’s “The Prince and The Pauper.” Princess Anneliese feels trapped into an arranged marriage, and Erika is stuck in a bad work situation. Though they don’t know each other yet, the entertaining number makes it clear they’re pretty similar. Of course, their lives wind up becoming intertwined when a sinister plan leads to them switching identities, and they find their happy endings. Later, in one final duet, they sing "Written in Your Heart," wrapping up their journeys with a melodic bow.

#4: "This Is Me"
“The Barbie Diaries” (2006)

The eighth movie in the film series opens up with Barbie and her friends performing their girl band anthem. But in this story, they aren’t princesses or successful popstars. They’re just regular teenagers dealing with everyday high school drama. The track itself is brought to life by singer Skye Sweetnam, who gives it the perfect cool girl vibe. "This Is Me" even has its own music video with intercut clips, mainly of Sweetnam and Barbie and co. jamming, and yes, it delivers. By far the edgiest entry on the list, this pop-rock hit stands out from the rest.

#3: "I Need to Know"
“Barbie as the Island Princess” (2007)

When it comes to Barbie ballads, this soaring call for adventure is one of the best. While the track has a more classic show tune style, it doesn’t feel try-hard or cheesy. It starts as a solo about longing for a new life, but it eventually builds into a romantic duet between Barbie (as Ro) and the prince. They aren’t the movie’s only singing duo, though. Later on, the lost princess and her mother reunite with a touching lullaby called "Right Here in My Arms." As a whole, “Barbie as the Island Princess” makes its musical mark by turning genuine emotion into memorable melodies.

#2: "I Am a Girl Like You"
“Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper” (2004)

If you don’t recognize this one by its title, you’ll definitely remember the iconic lyrics “I'm just like you. You're just like me.” In what is perhaps the peak of “Barbie” nostalgia, this song was programmed into thousands of kids' “Princess and the Pauper” dolls. When Anneliese and Erika meet in the town square, they realize that even though they have completely different lives, they also share a lot in common. As they dance and sing, the catchy duet is sure to get stuck in your head. It has everything from great lyrics to a compelling beat and pitch-perfect delivery. What more could you ask for?

#1: "Here I Am / Princesses Just Want to Have Fun"
“Barbie: The Princess & The Popstar” (2012)

In something of a remix of Barbie’s original “Princess and the Pauper” film, a famous singer and a princess decide to temporarily swap lives. Superstar Kiera’s “Here I Am” has all the makings of a 2010s radio hit. The movie features the catchy tune on a few occasions, but the mashup with a riff on a Cyndi Lauper classic is a standout moment. Somehow, when Tori joins in with “Princesses Just Want To Have Fun,” it’s easy to look past the extra syllables. Years later, the music video has more than 280 million views on YouTube, and it’s no wonder why. We just can’t help but dance and sing along!
