Top 10 Beaches to Visit in Your Life

In the name of sand and breathtaking views… these trips are worth the plane ticket! Welcome to WatchMojo.com, and today we’ll be counting down our picks for the Top 10 Beaches to Visit in Your Life.

For this list, we’ll be looking at some of the most stunning, unique and inviting beaches found around the world.

#10: Tulum, Mexico

The coastline surrounding these awe-inspiring mayan ruins is, in a word, “breathtaking”. Nestled on a bluff overlooking the sparkling Caribbean Sea, the well-preserved pre-Columbian walled city will give you a deep appreciation for the Mayan civilization. Once you’ve taken in the sights, you’ll invariably be drawn down to the stunning beach, where you’ll rediscover the meaning of the word paradise. If the beaches prove too seductive to leave, there are plenty of oceanfront resorts where you can take up temporary residence, but with stretches of public beach, you can also rent a place in town, giving you the opportunity to both soak up sun at the beach and explore the local culture.

#9: Reynisfjara Beach, Iceland

This nordic island nation might not be the first place to come to mind when you think of beaches, but don’t let a narrow definition of the term scare you away from this natural wonder. At Reynisfjara, you aren’t going to be suntanning or snorkeling. What you will be doing however, is repeatedly picking your jaw up off of the ground. Widely considered to be one of the most uniquely beautiful and stunning sights in the world, the volcanic black sand beaches of Reynisfjara astound. At certain times of day, with its monolithic rock formations rising above the violent seas, it looks like an alien planet. For photographers especially… this is a must-visit.

#8: Falassarna Beach, Crete, Greece

Greece isn’t short on stunning beaches, particularly in the Crete region. Balos Beach and Elafonissi lagoon are both breathtaking in their own right and are worth a visit, but if you were passing through and only had a few hours to spend in the area, Falassarna is the destination that you simply cannot afford to miss. Falassarna Bay, with its light sand and crystal clear water, and backdrop of pastoral rolling hills, is a Greek daydream. Made up of several smaller beaches, the most famous of which is Pachia Ammos, Falassarna is large enough that, even on busy days, you’ll have plenty of space to stretch out without feeling crowded.

#7: Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue, Seychelles

Visit this particular beach and you’ll understand the true meaning of the term “island paradise”. Nestled in the Indian ocean, the island of La Digue is the third largest of the 115 islands that make up the Republic of Seychelles. The entire population of the small island is only 2800, making for a quiet, laid back atmosphere. Unfortunately, its name recognition has made Anse Source d'Argent the must-see beach in Seychelles, so it can get crowded around mid-day. To best appreciate the beauty of this island paradise, stay on La Digue and hit Anse Source D’Argent in the early morning before visitors from the other islands arrive.

#6: Lanikai, Oahu, Hawaii

If you’re looking for a beach vacation within the United States, Hawaii is your go-to destination. Each of the islands that make up this state have something unique and appealing to offer, but if you’re looking for the absolute best beach, you’ve got to head to Oahu, the third largest island, which is home to the picturesque Lanikai beach. Located on the windward coast, Lanikai is just a half-mile long, but for those approximately 2640 feet of shoreline, you’re walking, lounging and swimming in paradise. Lanikai literally translates to “heavenly ocean”… and when you see it for yourself, you’ll agree that the name is well-deserved.

#5: Matira Beach, Bora Bora, French Polynesia

Bora Bora - it’s a name that instantly brings to mind palm trees, palapas and delicious fruity drinks. It’s a destination synonymous with crystal clear water and pristine white sand. And no place in Bora Bora do these many visions come together more perfectly than on Matira Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand found on the Southern tip of the island. Here, on the often quiet and generally uncrowded beach, you’ll experience rest and relaxation the likes of which you’d only previously ever dreamed about. For the full experience of course, you’ll definitely want to stay in an overwater bungalow at one of the neighboring hotels or resorts.

#4: Pink Sands Beach, Harbour Island, The Bahamas

Admit it… this beach had you at “Pink Sands”. Though the sand on the beach is more of a pristine white at a glance, the crushed up pink corral that washes ashore adds a beautiful sprinkling of color. And when sun is just right, the beach does indeed take on a warm, pinkish hue. Don’t worry though, because while the pink factor is often exaggerated, the overall beauty of this beach is not. In fact… words and reputation can’t really do it justice - you need to see it to understand. The landscape looks like a postcard. The sand is flawlessly smooth, the water warm and relatively calm, and the view… worth a thousand words.

#3: Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

Few places in the world bring to mind images of luxury quite like the Cayman Islands, but even among them, there is a hierarchy. And sitting right at the top of the list (at least far as beaches are concerned), is the Seven Mile Beach found on the west shore of Grand Cayman. Dubbed one of the Caribbean’s best beaches, and world renowned for its beauty, the seemingly endless beach plays host to some of the greatest resorts, restaurants and bars the Cayman Islands has to offer. Whether you’re looking to snorkel, kayak, eat and drink or simply lounge, the Seven Mile Beach will help you do it in comfort and style.

#2: Whitehaven Beach, Australia

Australia is known for its beaches, with Shell Beach reigning supreme on the West Coast. But with the entire country as your oyster, Whitehaven is arguably the most remarkable beach to be found in the land down under. Located on the eastern Island of Whitsunday, the beach is a true gem. Boasting brilliant white silica sand and turquoise water so brightly colored that you’ll accuse your eyes of photoshop, Whitehaven is truly surreal. While many of the world’s most beautiful beaches are surrounded by expensive resorts, Whitehaven refreshingly offers overnight camping, which is good, as you’re unlikely to want to leave anytime soon. The inland river system in particular, is truly breathtaking when viewed from above.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions

El Nido, Palawan, Philippines

Varadero Beach, Cuba

Cayo de Agua, Los Roques National Park, Venezuela.

#1: Grace Bay, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

If you have the chance to save up and visit just one exotic beach in your life, you’d have trouble going wrong with this awe-inspiring stretch of oceanfront. The aptly named Grace Bay was deemed to be the world’s best Beach by Tripadvisor in 2018, and the decision is hard to disagree with. People lucky enough to have vacationed at Grace Bay all agree that the water is almost indescribably beautiful. From the sunsets and the sand, to the snorkeling and the lack of cruise ship traffic, Grace Bay is a paradise that remains intact and, despite the odds, uncrowded. In short, it’s everything you could hope for in a beach, and so much more.
