Top 10 Best Anna Kendrick Moments
#10: City Slicker
“#missadventure” (2014-)
The Kate Spade brand has long been known for promoting its products in new and innovative ways. Enter #MissAdventure, a web series that doubles as commercials [#missadventure logo]. Not only does each episode have a star-studded cast and a cute story, visitors can shop the episodes online. Anna Kendrick kicks off the first season with a bang, where she plays a semi-awkward socialite version of herself in multiple episodes. She gets stood up, locked out, and even ditched by her ride-share driver. Much like the name of the show, she takes these strange and unlucky situations and turns them into an adventure, even meeting some icons along the way [Lily Tomlin smiles].
#9: Egg Russian Roulette
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (2014-)
You know the name of the game, a dozen hard-boiled eggs are presented to Fallon and a guest, who then smash the eggs against their heads. What’s the catch? Some of the eggs are totally raw. Kendrick was the first woman to play the segment, followed in later years by ladies like Paris Jackson and legendary Jodie Foster. After a three-egg lucky streak, Anna is (like the egg!) beaten. Slime soaking her hair, what does she do? Rocks it, of course! She models her new look, rubbing it into her hair like conditioner. This is why we love Anna. She knows how to have fun! She’s always a good sport, and that’s no yolk.
#8: Her Sondheim Stories
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (2015-)
If you are one of the, like, two people who still hasn’t seen Kendrick in “Into the Woods,” go check it out! You certainly won’t be sorry you saw “Company,” co-starring Stephen Colbert. What ties these two amazing plays together? Stephen Sondheim. In her interview with Colbert, they bond over their experiences with the legendary composer. Then, in one of the most innocent, pure moments on “The Late Show”, the two do a gorgeous rendition of “Falling in Love is Wonderful” from “Annie Get Your Gun”. If you need a pick-me-up for the day, forget the cat videos. Just put this on and you won’t help but smile.
#7:Toy Shop Prank Call
“Greg James” (2012-2018)
Anna takes her improv skills to the UK with this one! In an interview with Greg James for BBC Radio 1, she and “Trolls” costar Justin Timberlake play a regular game from the show called AlphabetiCall. They begin every new sentence on a phone call with the next letter of the alphabet. In this episode, they call a toy shop to get information on Troll dolls being in stock. While Timberlake stumbles through most of his sentences, Anna gracefully navigates the conversation with the toy store, despite being mortified at, well, trolling the poor lady. Regardless, James seems genuinely impressed and we know we certainly are.
#6: Our Maine Gal
Not only is Anna Kendrick funny, weird, and downright adorable, but she’s also a philanthropist. Remember flash mobs, those surprise groups of people dancing or singing in a public place to entertain bystanders? Well, crowdfunding non-profit DonorsChoose organizes a sort of good deed flash mob called #BestSchoolDay where celebrities donate to educational programs across the country. In 2016, Kendrick decided to donate enough to fund all 31 of DonorsChoose’s classroom projects in her home state of Maine. We love celebrities remembering where they come from, and it’s even sweeter that Anna personally gave kids a chance to follow their dreams like she was able to.
#5: “Pitch Perfect” Riff-Off with The Filharmonic
“The Late Late Show with James Corden” (2015-)
Who doesn’t remember the riff-off scene in “Pitch Perfect” ? Who doesn’t love the unexpectedly amazing voice of James Corden? Put them together and what do you have? An awesome night with Anna Kendrick, James Corden, and the Filharmonic on “The Late Late Show”! They show their vocal skills remixing and running with some iconic pop and hip-hop songs in a friendly competition. At the end of the battle, they make nice and sing a mashup of weather-themed songs that will have you begging for a rematch. Get out the way, Katrina & The Waves, you’re no match for these two!
#4: Not Being Nice
“Scrappy Little Nobody” (2016)
Would you believe us if we said Anna Kendrick doesn’t want to be nice? In 2016, Kendrick penned an insightful and humorous collection of autobiographical essays called “Scrappy Little Nobody”. In her book, she claims that being nice doesn’t mean what you think it means, at least in the business world. When some people consider you ‘nice’, it means that you don’t fight back and just do what you’re told. That isn’t to say that kindness is a waste, but confusing ‘nice’ with ‘obedient’ can be dangerous. It’s always important to have a voice, a vision, and unbridled passion, no matter what professional field you go into .
#3: Little Mermaid, Sort Of
“Saturday Night Live” (1975-)
When “SNL” gets a host that can sing, the show tends to feature them as much as it can. To open the night, Kendrick does a comical “Beauty and the Beast”-inspired musical monologue that gives us a taste of what is to come [here with Lorne Michaels watching]. Later on, she stars as a mermaid based on our favorite aquatic Disney princess, Ariel. Kendrick does outright hilarious, risque and ribald covers of songs from pop stars like Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears [Anna sings Womanizer] Anna also apparently filmed a skit about a drugged-out fictional kid’s show called “Zap!, which satirized ‘90s-era Nickelodeon. But apparently it was too out there, and was cut!
#2: Her Twitter Feed
If you aren’t convinced at how funny this starlet is, head on over to social media. Where other celebrity Twitter feeds tend to be full of landmines, Kendrick’s is an absolute comedy goldmine. Sometimes grody but always relatable, you won’t want to stop scrolling. And don’t worry. there are plenty of tweets to go around. She breaks down the barriers between celebrities and , well, non-famous people like us. Her feed goes to show that everyone struggles with their Amazon cart and comes up with the perfect comeback, hours after a fight.
Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
No Butts About It
“Late Show with Stephen Colbert” (2015-)
Kristen Stewart Impression
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (2014-)
Beyoncé FanGirl
#1: Bluntly Winning
“Lip Sync Battle” (2015-)
Though John Krasinski has about a foot on Kendrick, her attitude makes her larger than life! Anna begins with a relatively tame “Steal My Girl,” but with the format of the show, it’s pretty normal to go small on the first song. But in the climax of the song, she reveals a huge slideshow of John’s famous wife, Emily Blunt along with a printed t-shirt of of Emily and Anna together. Well, you had a good run, John! Maybe Anna will share on holidays. Next song, Anna’s got J. Lo in tow to help her prove that she can do anything, including dance. In the end, she wins the battle and is named champion of not only the night but our hearts.
