For a time, Drake and Rihanna had one of the most exciting “will they, won’t they” relationships in the music biz. Coming off of their previous collaboration on “What’s My Name?”, this black and white video took a more artistic approach to portray a relationship. In between stunning imagery of tropical birds, snow-covered mountains, and raging bulls there are gorgeous shots of the two of them standing in a stark room. It’s straightforward, but the connection between them is undeniable. The toned-down video fits with the melancholy song, and leaves viewers rooting for them to work it out.

For Drake’s big early hit, he had to create a memorable video to keep the buzz going. He did just that with this sports-themed video. He plays a basketball coach, with a slew of video vixens on his team. It’s a pretty silly concept, but hey,  it’s hard to lose with beautiful women and basketball. Midway through the video, he even takes a break to show his acting chops in a comedic scene where he’s giving a motivational speech, and various girls ask if they’re the best one on the team. He interrupts the song again with an innuendo-laced speech but we’re not mad about it. 
  

This is more of a short film than a traditional music video, Drake kicks things off with a scene where he vows to find the girl he loves, even though he’s warned not to.  What follows is a story featuring love and betrayal, with Drake going up against the head of gang to get his girl. He lets viewers think it will end happily . ..  before he’s shot by his love interest, in quite the final twist. The video was shot on location in Kingston, Jamaica and we’re shown different parts of the island, as well as Jamaican culture, including dancehall. The end result is a sultry video that shows Drake’s a true romantic.

Repping the American South, and his father, “Worst Behavior” feels like one of Drake’s more personal videos. Shot in Memphis, Tennessee, where his dad is from (and where Drake spent summers growing up), the video showcases some Southern culture, from hot rods to chicken shacks. His pops, Dennis, makes an appearance, posing for the camera in one of his most dapper suits. The video’s full of other cameos including Juicy J and Project Pat, but Drake steals the show each time he’s on-screen. He looks strong and determined, rapping about all his haters and challenging anyone to knock him off the number one spot. 
  

Drake knows how to keep fans on their toes, and he did just that with the release of the “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” mixtape. Since the tape was a surprise, the resulting videos were as well, but none more so than this one. In it, Drake makes a commentary about other celebrities, by impersonating some of their iconic moments. Throughout the video, he portrays celebs like Oprah during her Tom Cruise interview, Miley Cyrus in the “Wrecking Ball” video, and Kanye West in the “Bound” music video, to name a few. It’s not clear if the impersonations were full-on shots fired, but it sure is one of his most outrageous videos.

Everyone loves a good underdog story, and no one knows this better than Drake. Just like the title says, this video is a kind of origin story for him. He juxtaposes images of his current glamorous, glitzy lifestyle, full of fancy cars and mansions, with him at a job at Shoppers Drug Mart, a drug store chain in Canada. The vibe of the whole thing is pretty carefree and shows that he doesn’t take himself too seriously. Besides, it’s pretty hard to look stern when you’re dancing outside in the snow, like he is in this one.

Set in the ‘80s, Drake channels the style and feel of that era’s movies and shows, like “Scarface” and “Miami Vice”. As in his earlier video for “Find Your Love,” Drake has to save his girl from rival gangsters. This video clearly has a bigger budget, though, and the story has more drama. Drake is all leading man as he takes charge on his rescue mission, and it’s a good look for him, yes indeed. The visuals are hella smooth and the video features great cameos from musicians like A$AP Rocky and Fredo Santana. 
      

You’re never too old to become a man, especially if you’re Drake. For this project, Drake threw himself another Bar Mitzvah since he had re-committed himself to his Jewish faith. Viewers get to see footage of his original party, when he turned 13 years old,  but it’s this adult party that looks out of control. With the help of friends like Trey Songz, Birdman, and DJ Khaled, (and Lil Wayne, who raps on the track), it’s an unforgettable party, that shows just how good it is to be Drake. It marked his first collaboration with Director X, who he later worked with for “Hotline Bling.”

Without question, this is one of Drake’s most important projects. Before it starts, a title card pops up stating that Drake was given almost a million dollar budget for the video, and that he is going to give that money away, unbeknownst to his label. He makes good on his promise and gives out the money to real-life people in Miami. It’s touching to watch him connect with unsuspecting fans. It’s not really about him, but their reactions, which are awesome to watch. The video was a smash success, helping the song become the second single ever to get 100 million streams in a week.

With more than 1.3 billion views on YouTube to date, “Hotline Bling” is more than a video, it’s a global phenomenon. And it’s not exactly a high-concept clip; the vid is actually fairly simple, opening with women working at a phone sex hotline, before cutting to Drake doing his now-signature, dad-like dance moves in starkly empty rooms lit in constantly-shifting colors. His moves took on a life of their own and became one of some of the most memed images of 2015 . . . if not ever. What makes the video just so good is that it’s both funny and accessible, showing off that goofy side of Drake that we all love.
