Kicking off our list is this cameo-heavy video for Maroon 5’s new single “Don’t Wanna Know”. With appearances from Vince Vaughn, Sarah Silverman and Ed Helms, the video gives a huge shout out to Pokemon Go, with the band and co-stars all transformed into colorful creatures. After racing through the city dodging Pokémon hunters left and right, Adam Levine finds Silverman in her best Orange outfit, but not long enough to have a heart-to-heart chat. Save that for later when a Deadmau5-resembling Vince Vaughn gives Levine some perspective, and the two bond over a drink. For sheer silliness and fun, this video is not one you want to miss.
#9: “Alaska” Maggie Rogers
Our number 9 entry may have come across your radar via Pharell Williams. The superstar producer was giving a music workshop at NYU’s Clive Davis institute, when Rogers’ catchy and heartfelt track came on, sending Williams for a loop. While not new to the music scene at all, having two folk albums under her belt, Rogers was well on her way to fame after Williams’ co-sign. Soon thereafter, Rogers released the rustic music video for her smash hit, featuring lush forest scenery and an outdoor dance party. The first offering from a very promising star, this video will make you want to retreat to the forest with “Alaska” as your soundtrack.

In “My Way”, we relive a relationship experienced by the Scottish DJ/Producer Calvin Harris through virtual reality. We see memories of a countryside cabin, flashes of his former companion, and of course, a rave in a barn. While on-the-record, Harris denies any connection between his video and his past relationship with Taylor Swift, the video, polka dot dress and all, definitely speaks to the contrary. Through his lyrics, Harris maintains this mystery girl was the only thing in his way and that it was always “all about you”. Now if that’s not some serious shade, we don’t know what is.

Venturing into a bit of lesser-known territory for our next entry, this retro-style clip from the Australian electronic music group the Avalanches is charming and fun. Told from the perspective of a young boy in love, the video is set in a New York subway station, which is not usually a romantic setting. However, the song-and-dance routine, brass ensemble and heart costume that the young charmer puts together for his subway ticket attendant crush is nothing short of heartwarming. Add one serving nostalgia and a feel-good instrumental, and you’ve got a sure fire pick for our list.

The next video on our list is probably one of the few you haven’t seen yet, but over 30 million people around the world have! Seemingly taking musical cues from Major Lazer and the like, “Blood Sweat and Tears” is the lead single from South Korean pop sensation BTS’ second full length album, and the accompanying video is nothing short of jaw-dropping. Jumping from one rich setting to the next, BTS throws down a wicked choreography in an elegant museum setting, dressed in luxurious night wear as well as bedazzled jackets. Combine competition worthy dance moves with Hollywood level production values and you’ve got a K-Pop sensation, and a list-worthy music video.

Sorry, it’s just too easy to take on DJ Khaled’s lingo, especially after his latest album “Major Key” hit the Billboard 200’s number 1. Next up is his beyond-lavish video for “Do You Mind”, an RnB hit featuring the all-star team of Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Future, Jeremih, Rick Ross and August Alsina, along with rap video goddess Bernice Burgos starring as Khaled’s lucky companion. Khaled speaks on improving his marble floors, navigating through the jungle “focusly” and his new identity as Billy, while Future and Rick Ross list off the top-tier menu items and designer clothing only available to people in their income bracket. As big Avenged Sevenfold fans ourselves, we were thrilled to hear the eight-minute metal odyssey “The Stage” from their 7th studio album was getting a visual treatment. The elaborate video is set in a puppet theater called “Professor Batz Fantastical History of the World”, and showcases the vilest of historical events – including the slaves of ancient Egypt, the slaughter of Native Americans, world wars and other atrocities. The marionettes present these events through funny movements and expressions, making this video pretty creepy. Make sure to stick around right until the end though, when an all-too- familiar force is revealed as the mastermind behind it all.

Dropping an album that almost no one was ready for or expecting, Solange has been making waves with “A Seat at the Table”, and the visual components to the album are no different. After all, when you’re married to acclaimed music video director Alan Ferguson, your visuals better be on point. In “Don’t Touch My Hair”, Ferguson adorns his female cast in a variety of pristine white and earth-toned outfits, contrasted heavily by the bold and colorful menswear. Seriously, this music video could be a scene out of New York Fashion Week, and the same can be said about the video for “Cranes in the Sky”, also released in October. Queen B, we think you’ve got some competition.
#2: “24K Magic”

Seriously, is there anyone out there who doesn’t LOVE Bruno? The man just delivers hits one after the next. First we had the ‘80s swagger of his track with Mark Ronson, “Uptown Funk,” and now Bruno returns with the g-funk referencing smash “24K Magic”, and the video is just as fun and upbeat as the last. A celebration of glitz, glamor and that rock star lifestyle, this blinged-out video shows Mars and his posse cruising through the night, turning the head of every model, actress and exquisite looking gal in town. There’s a ton going on this video, but Bruno isn’t stressing. He’s just kicking it in some white loafers, rolling in that 24k Magic. #1: “False Alarm”
Alternative RnB star The Weeknd impressed us last month with the moody visual for “Starboy“, but Abel and his visual team went above and beyond with the video for “False Alarm”. Rare is it to see a music video that actually explores a narrative. “False Alarm” does this marvelously, but in a manner that you have probably never seen before. The entire video is shot from a first person perspective, telling the story of a bank heist gone awry. Directed by Ilya Naishuller, “False Alarm” reaches its climax in a high-speed chase, as the protagonist jumps from moving car to moving car, simultaneously fending off police and enemies. Be warned though, this video is not for the faint of heart. Oh and spoiler alert: you hardcore Weeknd fans may shed a tear at this end of this video. Do you agree with our list?
