“Rayman” series (1995-)

Nowadays, Ubisoft seems more concerned with creating open world games in which you scale a tall structure and unlock more of the map, which in turn reveals about eight million more icons you can explore. But once upon a time they were concerned with nothing more than a simple platformer helmed by a dapper fellow known for his intense fisticuffs. Despite his minimal limbs and hair that can be used like a helicopter, Rayman is an extremely welcoming, fun-loving, unruly, and just a care-free dude. His games may not compete with the likes of Mario, but he’s nonetheless a blast to play, especially when you land that final punch!

"Assassin's Creed Odyssey" (2018)

There have been many to wear the mantle of assassin across this seemingly never-ending, time-twisting saga, but none have managed to break the mold quite like these siblings. Grandchildren of THE King Leonidas, you won't find a more capable pair of Spartans in all of ancient Greece. While their killing prowess is up there with the best of them, what sets these two apart is just how endearing they are. Thanks to the game's RPG elements, you really get a feel for the people beneath the armour, thought that might just be due to their impartialness to the occasional orgy.

"Far Cry" series (2004-)

How the hell is this guy not dead yet? He somehow managed to survive the bloodthirsty pirates of Rook Island, the civil war of Kyrat, the violent zealotry of Hope County, even the savage wilds of the prehistoric era...without really noticing any of it. Hurk truly is the perfect idiot, and no matter how many times his sense of humour or desire for boobs and booze might annoy you, we can't deny always looking forward to seeing him rock up in each new installment. At this rate he's likely to outlive us all!

“Beyond Good & Evil” (2003)

While the fact she’s an orphan, was raised by her adoptive uncle, and is a pro-photographer, might incline you to believe this little lady is a straight up superhero, the truth of the matter is that she's got far more grit to her. Jade's got all the street smarts, and while she's certainly got a maternal nature about her, that won't save you when she opens up a fresh can of whoop ass on anyone who messes with her crew. Of course her most defining feature is her relentless pursuit of the truth, to the point where she's willing to dive into the deepest of rabbit holes if it means reaching the truth behind an intergalactic conspiracy

“Raving Rabbids” series (2006-)

Adorable, or annoying to the point of wanting to rip your own brain out? You be the judge. The Rabbids may look like cute little bunnies, but it's a different story as soon as they open their fiendishly large mouths. With a screech that could wake the dead, these critters have a high affinity for violence with household appliances. Thankfully you can always count on their stupidity to be their undoing. Their particular brand of crazy proved to strike such a chord with fans that they even ended up breaking away from their role as Rayman villains and landed their own games! That's how you know you've made it big!

“The Sands of Time” series (2003-10)

A reboot of the classic platformer from the 90s, not only did this reinvention up the combat and narrative to ridiculous degrees, but also gave us a truly compelling lead in the form of the The Prince. He was just the right amount of brooding, could do Parkour around ancient temples like nobody's busy, and was a swordsman of such swashbuckling calibur that even gods fell before his blade. Throw in his touching devotion to his one true love and you have an exotic protagonist who is above all else - timeless!

“Beyond Good & Evil” (2003)

As cool as Jade is, there’s just no competing with this lighthouse mechanic, who also serves as her parental figure. Oh, and he’s also a talking pig. Pey’j is a bit of an oddball, as he's the eccentric weirdo of the group, inventing all manner of goofy gizmos like fart-powered boots. That said, he's loyal to the bitter end when it comes to his precious niece, and he's not too bad in a scrap either. All in all, he's the heart and soul of the group, and we can't wait to see him return when they finally get around to putting that sequel out!

“Far Cry 3” (2012)

No matter how many more “Far Cry” games Ubisoft unleashes, their antagonists will likely pale in comparison to this pirate. What makes Vaas so memorable is that he has absolutely zero redeeming qualities – he’s just pure evil...in the most engrossing and fascinating way imaginable! Wildly unpredictable, sadistic, and having some of the best lines in all of gaming, Vaas could have easily veered into camp territory, but “Better Call Saul’s” Michael Mando keeps him grounded and terrifying throughout his unforgettable performance. Vaas truly is a villain for the ages.

There's no getting around it people, the Italian stallion will forever be the face of this franchise, and it's not hard to see why. From rebellious youth to vengeful killer. Embittered old man to the wisest of teachers. There's a reason this guy got his own trilogy. His personal arc is one of the series's greatest, a figure who not only drops bodies in spectacular style but inspires respect like few others. While they'll be countless more assassins to take up the moniker, it's fair to say they're already caught in Ezio's shadow.

While author Tom Clancy’s name may be on the cover, Sam Fisher is actually a product of Ubisoft writer J.T. Petty, the man behind video games like “Homefront” and the “Outlast” series. As good as those games are, Sam Fisher is arguably his greatest creation, because…well, because it’s Sam freakin' Fisher. Espionage, assassination, no one does it like this guy. He's prevented World War III, almost single-handedly taken down entire terrorist organizations, he even locked horns with the United States government in an act of revenge. He may be getting too old for this shit, but that hasn't stopped him getting even more badass with age.
