#10: “Run the World (Girls)” 4 (2011)

Also in:

Top 10 World Cup Songs

An undeniable earworm upon first listen, the lead single from 4 blends multiple sounds and musical styles to give listeners a completely unique experience. Sampling Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor,” “Run the World”’s chorus is aggressive and has an in-your-face attitude. Beyoncé promotes female empowerment and unites girls all over the world with this anthem. The accompanying music video is just as addictive as the song itself, as Queen B and a slew of back-up dancers perform hard-hitting choreography. It’s truly a visual treat!

#9: “Naughty Girl” Dangerously in Love (2003)

Also in:

Top 10 Naughty But Nice Christmas Songs

As one of her most overtly sexual songs, “Naughty Girl” capitalizes on Beyoncé’s status as a sex symbol. Playing on her good girl, bad girl persona, the Dangerously in Love single proves that she can embody both sides. It’s one of her straight R&B tracks, and its style matches the sensuality of the lyrics. There are also some disco flavors present and lyrics from an old Donna Summer track are snuck in when she croons, “love to love you baby.” A top 3 hit, the 3-and-a-half minute number also features layered vocals that give the track its sultry feel and undeniable energy.

#8: “Sweet Dreams” I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008)

Also in:

Izzo Blues Coalition - Sweet Home Chicago (Robert Johnson Cover)

One of her more notable synthpop songs, this I Am… Sasha Fierce single has an otherworldly quality to it thanks to Bey singing about the dreams she has about her lover. It was one of the first tracks written for the album, and is definitely one of the standouts. With her soaring vocals, listeners are taken on a journey with her. A Billboard Hot 100 Top 10, “Sweet Dreams” also has a slinky feel to it and spawned numerous dance remixes. Its music video matches the song’s vibe and gave us some unforgettable images of Beyoncé’s dancing style.

#7: “Baby Boy” feat. Sean Paul Dangerously in Love (2003)

This track is one of Beyoncé’s best collaborations, and has more of a dancehall and Middle Eastern influence than any of her other singles. By singing of her desires to be with her man, “Baby Boy” has a very intimate feel, but despite its sensuality, it’s got the perfect beat to dance to. Meanwhile, Sean Paul raps his response in his signature reggae style. The four-minute tune reached the top ten on many charts worldwide and gave Beyoncé a nine-week run at number one on the U.S. charts.

#6: “Irreplaceable” B’Day (2006)

Time and time again, Beyoncé has proved that she’s not a woman to be messed with. This song is one of her best anthems for dealing with a break-up. It was originally written from a male point of view, but as Beyoncé so often does, she totally owned the song. “Irreplaceable”’s catchy hook, “to the left, to the left,” has even become a saying to brush off all the negativity in life. The single was the best performing track of her B’Day album, earned a Grammy nod and became the bestselling song of 2007 in the U.S.A.

#5: “Drunk in Love” feat. Jay-Z Beyoncé (2013)

As one of two lead singles from her surprise self-titled album, “Drunk in Love” showed that Beyoncé knows exactly how to drive the world crazy with her creativity. With its trap and R&B elements, it’s a more grown-up sound and proves not only that she owns her sexuality, but also that she isn’t afraid to show it. The video was a viral hit, generating countless memes and GIFs. Considered a sequel to “Crazy in Love,” the song also features her husband Jay-Z, who gives it that extra bit of swagger. But mostly, we appreciate this top 2 track for teaching us what “surfboard” means.

#4: “Countdown” 4 (2011)

Also in:

Inspired by the pop music of the ‘70s and ‘90s, “Countdown” blended these sounds with a Boyz II Men sample to give her audience something completely new. Taken from her fourth studio record, the 3-and-a-half-minute single can be viewed as a playful ode to commitment and fidelity, while maintaining the upbeat, funky feel of earlier hits in the same vein. Even though the music video landed Bey in some hot water for its use of a 1983 ballet routine, it matched the song’s quirkiness and light tone, and earned positive critical reviews.

#3: “Halo” I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008)

Showing her more sensitive side, this single and its lyrics were written to show that Beyoncé is more than just a pop star. It’s a stripped-down pop ballad, in which she puts her heart and insecurities on the line. Co-written by Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic fame, “Halo” was penned in just under three hours and was simultaneously released with “Diva” to show Sasha Fierce’s two sides. And this pairing elevated the Grammy-nominated song’s ethereal qualities. Reaching a peak of number five on the Hot 100, the tune has been covered by many different artists.

#2: “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008)

Also in:

Singer Victoria Duffield Talks 'Shut Up and Dance' Single

If there is one thing audiences can expect from B, it’s a kickass woman’s empowerment record. “Single Ladies” serves as her biggest anthem to date, and has her singing about the freedom of single life and the expectations of wanting a true commitment. The video for the song gave us one of the most parodied and copied dance sequences in recent memory, as Beyoncé and two back-up dancers give it their all in black unitards and heels. Topping the Hot 100 and becoming one of the best-selling singles ever, “Put a Ring on It” has also become the ultimate declaration of female independence. Before we unveil our number one pick, here are a few honorable mentions: - “Ring the Alarm” B’Day (2006) - “If I Were a Boy” I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008) - “Love on Top” 4 (2011) - “Me, Myself and I” Dangerously in Love (2003) - “Diva” I Am… Sasha Fierce (2008)

#1: “Crazy in Love” feat. Jay-Z Dangerously in Love (2003)

Also in:

Izzo Blues Coalition The Messiah Will Come Again Shine On You Crazy Diamond Intro

After all these years, Beyoncé’s first solo single is still her best. She really hit the ground running with “Crazy in Love” and set the standard for what audiences would then expect a Beyoncé song to be: fierce, in-your-face, and catchy as hell. Featuring future husband Jay-Z, the funky hip hop, pop and R&B song sold more than eight million copies worldwide, nabbed the singer two Grammys, and monopolized the Hot 100’s top spot for 8 straight weeks. Beyoncé can be drunk in love or dangerously in love anytime she wants, but we all know she’s best when she’s crazy in love. Do you agree with our list? Which song do you think is Queen B’s best?
