#10: Yakuza Massacre
“Parasyte: The Maxim” (2014)

One unarmed guy sporting gym shorts and a tank top walks into a room full of angry yakuza. Who do you put your money on? After making quick work of the first couple guards at the door, Gotou makes his way inside to welcome the gang to their last fight. Sensing their opponent was no ordinary man, the mob thugs swiftly unload their guns into the monster, but to no avail. Being made up of five different parasites has granted Gotou the ability to regenerate making him almost indestructible, and he slices through the yakuza gang in the bloodiest of rampages.

#9: Band of the Hawk’s End
“Berserk” (1997)

Betrayal sucks, but having to witness the death of your closest companions after being betrayed by your leader makes it so much worse. In order to gain the power he has sought his entire life, The Band of the Hawk’s leader Griffith submits to the power of the God Hand, and in return sacrifices the lives of those who once called him captain. A horde of demons surrounds the band of mercenaries, effortlessly slaughtering them to a man.

#8: Yuka's Death
“Corpse Party” (2013)

First rule in a survival horror show; don't separate yourself from the rest of the group. This was perhaps inevitable, as all the students from Kisargi (kiss-ar-gi) Junior High were separated upon arriving at the abandoned Heavenly Host Elementary School. Upon being abducted by Yuuya Kizami (you-yah kiz-ah-me), Yuka is tied to a table by each leg and arm and slowly dissected by the deranged student. Yuka's screams of pain echoed throughout the building, yet reached the ears of her brother a couple seconds too late.

#7: Makoto Ito's Harem Backfires
“School Days” (2007)

Scenes like this one would discourage anyone from thinking about cheating on their partner. After discovering that her lover Makoto is a huge man-whore, Sekai sets out to retrieve full retribution for her shattered feelings. Following a simple text that read “goodbye,” Sekai introduces Makoto to a kitchen knife. Disoriented, in pain and terrified, Makoto attempts to crawl to safety, but he is unable to escape Sekai’s fury. A montage of the happy time the two spent together illustrates the love that they once shared and Makoto clearly regrets the actions that lead him to this moment.

#6: Dr. Okazi's Wife
“Shiki” (2010)

Everyone knows that science can have a dark side. Once a vampiric plague strikes this small Japanese village, Dr. Toshio Okazi soon suspects that his own wife has become a monster. Once incapacitated, Dr. Okazi wastes no time in experimenting on her body. While on his operating table, she awakes to her husband attempting to drug her with anaesthetics, but to no avail. Ignoring her screams and pleas for mercy, Toshio continues to explore every method he has for killing her humanely, before finally opting to impale her with a wooden stake. Consider that a divorce?

#5: Luke Valentine vs Alucard
“Hellsing Ultimate” (2006-)

Contrary to what most might believe, it is considered one of the highest forms of flattery when the immortal vampire Alucard is excited to kill you. Small comfort for Luke Valentine, as he was more than confident that he could be the one to bring down England's Night Walker. While only managing to mildly impress Alucard with his enhanced strength and dexterity, the vampire became bored with Luke's inability to draw out more power. Realizing his opponent was only a mere tease, Alucard becomes irritated and devours Luke limb by limb.

#4: Teacher’s Suicide
“Another” (2012)

Some very strange things have been happening at Yomiyama (yo-me-yah-mah) North Middle School, and it just so happens to land all over the faces of Class 3. Homeroom went a bit differently for this 9th grade class while their teacher, under the influence of the school's curse, brandishes a huge knife in front of his class. He then uses the knife on himself, leaving his students mortified and drenched in blood. Although after just witnessing a fellow classmate stake herself with her own umbrella, this couldn't have come as much of a shock.

#3: Train Flashback
“Elfen Lied” (lie-d) (2004)

Some kids have a lot of trouble fitting in. When that child happens to be a young monster queen however, school yard trouble becomes a parent’s worst nightmare. When the young boy Kouta makes friends with one such outcast named Kaede, AKA Lucy, his sister Kanae steps in to warn Kouta of the danger. Lucy, has almost no regard for human life and doesn’t take Kanae’s interference very well, ripping Kanae in half with her vectors. Lucy then kills Kouta’s father, but spares Kouta, leaving him, shall we say, traumatized.

#2: Rika's Death
“When They Cry” (2006)

Don't ever try to call this one on her bluff. One simple confrontation between these two soon takes a turn for the worse when Shion suspects that Rika is involved in a string of murders. Rika ambushes Shion but Shion gets the upper hand on her much smaller opponent. When Shion announces that she plans on torturing Rika to death, Rikia finds a way to escape the torment by picking up a butcher knife and taking her own life in a horrific and violent way.

Before we unveil our pick for Top Brutal Anime Death Scene, here are a few honorable mentions:

Joichiro Nishi Death
“Gantz” (2004)

Claire's Victims
“Baccano!” (2007)

Frieza's Death
“Dragon Ball Z” (1989-1996)

104th Trainee Squad's First Battle
“Attack on Titan” (2013)

Demonstrating the Dominator
“Psycho Pass” (2012-2013)

#1: Cerberus Attack
“Blood C” (2011)

Defiance is one thing this antagonist just won't tolerate. When Fumita decides that his subordinates Nene and Nono have failed in their roles, he calls on Cerberus to execute them and their classmates. After it quickly cursing and devouring Shinichiro, the monster catches up to Nene and Nono, mercilessly smashing them apart, ripping them in half and finally devouring them. Kanako, believing herself to escape the heinous fate is met with Tadayoshi's (tad-aye-oh-shis) embrace before meeting her own demise. The scene is gratuitous and extreme, not shying away from any of the character’s pain.
