#10: Vera Konstantin
“The Punisher #29” (2006)
In the “Slavers Arc,” The Punisher uncovers a group that kidnaps women and forces them into prostitution. As Frank tears his way through New York City to stop it, he learns about Vera Constantin. Constantin helped run the prostitution ring and had her men rape and assault the women she kidnapped to make them more submissive. By the time the Punisher encounters Constantin in her high-rise office, he is fuming with hatred. He throws her into bulletproof glass over and over again. Frank doesn’t stop until the frame holding the glass breaks, leaving Constantin to fall to her death. It’s a brutal kill that captures Frank’s version of justice.
#9: Bringing the Hammer Down
"The Punisher" (2017-)
At the start of the Netflix Punisher series, Frank Castle tracks down and kills the men responsible for the death of his family and settles down as a construction worker under the name Pete Castiglione, leaving behind his life of constant violence. Despite being constantly harassed and threatened by his coworkers, he refuses to draw blood - that is, until he sees three of those coworkers trying to murder young Donny Chavez. He kills the first thug by swinging a sledgehammer into his face and letting him fall into a cement mixer. The second thug gets off relatively easy with a gunshot. The last guy gets the worst of it, having his head bashed in repeatedly.
#8: One Man Army
"The Punisher" (2017-)
Although we often hear about Frank Castle’s military experience, we don’t always get to see the bloody details. In a flashback scene, we follow Frank as his unit tries to survive an ambush in Afghanistan. Desperate to get his men to safety, Frank tries to clear a path alone. What follows is an unflinching montage of carnage and death. With each kill, he becomes more savage and desperate. Even after he takes a bullet, it doesn’t take him long to get back on his feet and right back to killing. Frank is left covered in blood and gasping for air. He won the battle, but the look on his face says that he lost something else in the process.
#7: Blowing Up a Freerunner
“Punisher: War Zone” (2008)
“Punisher: War Zone” might not be considered a great movie, but it did have a number of memorable moments and kills that were straight out of the pages of a comic book. Our personal favorite comes when Frank is looking for the villainous Jigsaw. He discovers that a group of violent freerunners has the information he needs and follows them to a robbery. Rather than whip out a camera to record their cool parkour, The Punisher takes out an explosive gun. As one of the runners flips through the air, Frank launches a missile and blows him to pieces.
#6: Ma Gnucci
“The Punisher” #12 (2001)
The Punisher and crime boss Ma Gnucci had a rivalry that just wouldn’t die. It seemed like Punisher won when he let polar bears maul her. But Ma Gnucci returned with a few missing limbs and a singular goal to murder the Punisher. After surviving a slew of her assassins, Frank confronts Ma Gnucci at her mansion. He sets the place on fire with a grenade and leaves her to die inside. When Gnucci jumps out for one last attack, The Punisher kicks her back into the burning flames and tells her to go to hell. It was an explosive end to a bitter feud.
#5: The Russian
“The Punisher” #11 (2001)
One of Frank's’ toughest opponents is known only as The Russian. He’s an assassin capable of withstanding high amounts of punishment and dishing it right back. In both the 2004 film and comic, the Russian surprises Frank in his apartment. Frank tries to fight The Russian with household tools but nothing works. He finally gets his opening after surprising the assassin with hot food. In an iconic moment, Frank pushes an obese neighbor on top of The Russian and waits for the killer to suffocate. The movie did a solid job of portraying this heated battle, but the comic version has the iconic conclusion.
#4: Final Revenge
“The Punisher” (2004)
In the 2004 Punisher film, the son of mob boss Howard Saint is killed during a sting operation. When Saint finds out that Frank Castle was a part of the mission, he seeks revenge. He waits until the Castle family reunion and shoots everyone there… except for Frank Castle. Frank eventually recovers from his wounds and seeks his own revenge. And boy does he get it. Once Castle comes face-to-face with the mob boss, he shoots Saint, ties him to a car bumper, has the car drag Saint along the pavement and then blows the car up. The resulting explosion creates a fiery Punisher logo and an unforgettable execution.
#3: Barracuda
“The Punisher” #54 (2008)
By now, you may have guessed that messing with Frank’s family is a guaranteed death sentence. The mercenary Barracuda learned that the hard way when he kidnapped Frank’s young daughter. When The Punisher went in to rescue her, a vicious brawl ensued. Teeth were lost, blood was drawn, and both men had to suffer some dirty blows. But Frank still managed to get the upper hand by hacking Barracuda’s arms with an ax. Then he finished Barracuda with a gruesome gunshot to the face. Frank may not have won any father-of-the-year awards for the fight, but he got to walk away with his daughter.
#2: Prison Massacre
“Daredevil” (2015-)
Throughout Daredevil season 2, The Punisher is desperate to find out why his family was killed. While in jail for murder, Wilson Fisk tells Castle to meet a prisoner that might have the answers. Once Castle finishes his, ahem, “interrogation,” Fisk reveals that the whole meeting was a deadly trap. In a glorious and gory scene, Castle fights his way through a mob of homicidal prisoners. He uses a combination of military training, improvised weapons, and even an eye gouge to take out the violent prisoners. By the end of the massacre, Frank is covered in blood...and the last one standing.
#1: The Entire Marvel Universe
“Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe” (1995)
In most Punisher stories, Frank Castle loses his family to common criminals. But in this alternate universe story, his family is killed in the crossfire of a superhero battle. Consumed with rage, Castle goes on a rampage, killing every hero and villain in the world. On his vengeful quest, he bludgeons Dr. Doom’s head in with a hammer, kills off the X-men with a nuclear missile, and manages to dispose of Wolverine, The Hulk, and even Captain America, who are no match for Frank’s murderous rage. Although this is a one-shot, the message is clear: do not piss off the Punisher.
