Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the times when celebs' tresses were fried, cut and/or damaged due to their jobs. Have you ever had a major hair catastrophe?! Tell us about it in the comments!

#10: Kate Winslet

“Titanic” (1997)
A natural blonde, Winslet dyed her locks for “Titanic.” Indeed, James Cameron wanted her character, Rose DeWitt Bukater, to have vibrant red tresses. Initially, excited by the bold idea, Winslet was on board…no pun intended. However, in the long run, this would cause her some major frustrations. For roughly two years, the future Oscar-winning actress struggled to return to her natural color. The heat damage due to excessive curling probably didn’t do her any favors, either. In the end, Winslet appears to have returned to her original color, but her hair journey definitely serves as a cautionary tale.

#9: Robert Pattinson

“Good Time” (2017)
Robert Pattinson went all in for his high octane role in the 2017 crime flick “Good Time.” Part of the process involved doing some serious damage to his hair. Production required him to sport a few different looks and colors, including a bleach blonde and messy ‘do. This meant his locks went through a lot – including his bangs being doused with peroxide. Unfortunately, the process actually resulted in some hair loss! Despite the film being both critically and publicly well-received, it seems shooting it was anything but a “good time” for Pattinson’s mane.

#8: Jennifer Aniston

“Friends” (1994-2004)
In the mid-90s, Jennifer Aniston was riding high on her “Friends” success, becoming one of the most famous faces on television as Rachel Green. She became even more famous thanks to a little hairstyle known as “The Rachel”. Named after her sitcom character, the cut, courtesy of hair stylist Chris McMillan, caused a frenzy. The layered look became one of the biggest beauty trends of the decade. However, Aniston actually hated it! Years later, “The Morning Show” actress revealed that she thought it was ugly and couldn’t figure out how to style it herself. Luckily, this didn’t cause a rift between Aniston and McMillan, who still does her hair to this day… just with a few less layers.

#7: Keira Knightley

Various
Appearing in everything from “Pride & Prejudice” to “The Imitation Game”, Keira Knightley has been one of Hollywood’s go-to actresses for period pieces. Her roles have spanned decades and even centuries, which means she has had to undergo physical changes to match historical settings many times. Even for non-period flicks, she’s had to change up her color often. Thus, Knightley has confessed that one too many dye jobs resulted in her hair suffering serious harm. As a result, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star began opting for wigs which have saved her locks and allowed for some pretty elaborate on screen coiffures.

#6: Zendaya

“Shake It Up” (2010-13)
Even before she was starring in big blockbuster franchises like “Dune” and “Spider-Man,” Zendaya was making a name for herself as a Disney Channel darling. When filming one of the network’s sitcoms, “Shake It Up,” her hair faced severe injury, due to the negative effects of hot hair styling tools. This affected the growth of her tresses for years thereafter. Fast forward today, and Zendaya is one of Tinseltown's most in demand names, which requires her to change up her look frequently. But now, it looks like her hair is in tip top shape.

#5: Carey Mulligan

“Public Enemies” (2009)
The same year as her breakout role in 2009’s “An Education”, Carey Mulligan had a small role in the historical crime thriller, “Public Enemies,” directed by Michael Mann. He requested that the actress dye her hair bleach blonde for the part of Carol. While it looked great on camera, behind the scenes, Mulligan was undergoing a hair emergency! The chemical treatment caused her fried locks to fall, and she had no other choice than to snip it all off. She ended up becoming well known for her cute and sweet pixie cut, but admitted that she only did it because she had to!

#4: Jennifer Lawrence

“The Hunger Games” franchise (2012-)
Jennifer Lawrence’s role in “The Hunger Games” series saw her go from a stunning blonde to a stunning brunette. However, according to the film’s hair stylist Linda Flowers, the actress desperately wanted to return to her blonde roots between sequels once “Catching Fire” wrapped filming. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the best move, as her hair could not handle the transitions. So, Lawrence had no choice but to make the ultimate hair statement and cut it off into a short do. Learning her lesson, she went for the safer option of wearing wigs for the “Mockingjay” flicks, and her locks were able to heal.

#3: Charlize Theron

“Snow White & the Huntsman” (2012) & “Prometheus” (2012)
During press tours, a celebrity’s hair is constantly undergoing styling, treatment, and general wear and tear. Perhaps no one knows this better than Charlize Theron. While promoting “Snow White & the Huntsman” and “Prometheus” almost simultaneously, the actress’s hair underwent several styles that caused massive injury to her mane. It was fried beyond repair, so she opted to do something drastic when the time came to become Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road”. Shaving it all off, Theron sported a buzzcut in the Oscar-winning action flick, which has become one her coolest looks to date!

#2: Emilia Clarke

“Game of Thrones” (2011-19)
For seven seasons, Emilia Clarke donned icy platinum blonde wigs to play the iconic Daenerys Targaryen in “Game of Thrones.” However for the final season, Clarke bid adieu to the trusty hairpieces and actually dyed her brunette locks. Like Daenerys’ controversial reign of terror, the damage to her hair was intense. Clarke admitted that the bleach “killed” her mane and thus, she was forced to snip her long locks into a bob – though of course she rocked that, too. Of course, it’s now been years since “Game of Thrones” wrapped, and it appears that her hair has returned to its shiny and healthy state!

#1: Ariana Grande

“Victorious” (2010-13)
If there’s anything higher than Ariana Grande’s vocals, it’s her instantly recognizable ponytail! The updo became her signature style, but its existence wasn’t just an aesthetic choice at first. Indeed, it was due to her job on Nickelodeon’s “Victorious.” The “Yes, And?” singer portrayed Cat Valentine on the sitcom, and the part required the natural brunette to go red. To maintain the fiery crimson shade, Grande needed dye sessions every two weeks. Sadly, the excessive treatment caused major breakage for years, which is why she opted to wear her hair up (with extensions), in order to conceal the damage.
