These 10 Character Reveals in Movie Trailers blew our minds when we first saw them. We couldn't even pay attention to how cool the trailer was because of how exciting these character reveals were! We're talking Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Gwen, Laurie Strode, Leonard Nimoy, Disney Princesses, Wonder Woman, and more! What was your favorite?
We bought our tickets the second we saw these previews. Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we’re counting down our picks for the Top 10 Character Reveals in Movie Trailers. For this list, we're looking at times when a character or group of characters stole their respective movie trailers just by appearing. It doesn't matter if we already knew they would be in the film or not, as long as their reveal was epic.

#10: Guardians of the Galaxy “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018)

Petition to REHIRE James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Earns 300,000 Signatures – The CineFiles Ep. 82

All the “Avengers: Infinity War” trailers were filled with appearances from our favorite Marvel heroes. But it was the Guardians of the Galaxy that stood out above the rest. Although the goofball team debuted in 2014, they had been kept separate from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s characters... until “Infinity War” …'s trailer. When Thor asks an off-camera group “who the hell are you guys?” it’s revealed that the Guardians are staring him down. Thor’s hostile reaction, Mantis’ shy wave and the newly teenaged Groot were pitch perfect, and their last-minute cameo got us excited to see the Avengers finally team up with the Guardians.

#9: Spider-Gwen “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (2018)

While Gwen Stacy is portrayed as Peter Parker’s love interest in various media, there’s a universe where she gets all his famous spider powers. Within a few years of her debut, Gwen’s Spider-Woman, A.K.A. Spider-Gwen, became a fan favorite with readers. The heroine delighted fans again when she literally swung into this animated trailer. Spider-Gwen gives us a look at her sleek white costume before effortlessly swinging past two Spider-Men, and that confidence and control showed us that she was a capable heroine. Although we were already excited to see Miles Morales onscreen, the sight of him working beside an experienced Spider-Gwen guaranteed that “Spider-Verse” would be amazing.

#8: Laurie Strode “Halloween” (2018)

Through the years the “Halloween” franchise completely mangled its continuity with contradicting sequels, reboots and remakes. One of the biggest casualties of the confused storyline was Jamie Lee Curtis’ character, Laurie Strode. After she survived Myers’ assault in the first “Halloween”, other movies in the franchise showed Laurie in hiding, institutionalized or killed off. To simplify the series’ narrative, the 2018 writers only counted the first film as canon and brought back Curtis’ iconic character. The reboot trailer showed Laurie as a shotgun wielding badass that’s ready and willing to take revenge. Her bold reinvention was all the proof fans needed that the newest movie would be a true return to form.

#7: Leonard Nimoy’s Spock “Star Trek” (2009)

Director J.J Abrams’s made sure to pack 2009’s “Star Trek” trailer with action, humor and lens flares. While it was great to see the series embrace an exciting tone and younger actors, fans wondered if any of the original cast would reprise their roles. Leonard Nimoy answered that question with a stunning Spock cameo. With the film taking the Trek-universe back to the TOS era, and Zachary Quinto debuting as Spock, this half-blooded double-dip hinted that the new film would be playing around with time travel or alternate realities. Nimoy’s Spock ultimately doubled as a brilliant homage and fuel for tons of fan theories.

#6: Disney Princesses “Ralph Breaks the Internet” (2018)

Top 10 Disney Princesses' Comfy Outfits in Ralph Breaks the Internet

Each Disney princess is iconic enough on her own. Seeing them all together is a crossover event that only “The Avengers” could match. When “Ralph Breaks the Internet’s” trailer showed Vanellope would meet both new and old Disney princesses, fans from every generation got a new chance to see their favorite royals. Furthermore, the characters made a bunch of self-aware jokes about their backstories. While some fans thought the movie missed a few princesses, the meta humor perfectly hit the mark. Whether it became a brief detour or a major plot point, we were excited to see our favorite royals pop up in Ralph’s world.

#5: Wonder Woman “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016)

Top 10 Movie Trailers That Made Fans Rage Quit

Despite being one of the most recognizable heroines of all time, it took Wonder Woman 75 years to appear on a movie screen. That long wait finally ended in a “Batman V Superman” trailer. When Doomsday shot energy at Batman, it looked like Bats would be burned to a crisp. But when the smoke clears, it’s revealed that Wonder Woman protected the Dark Knight with her shield. The moment is so awesome that her fellow heroes need a moment to process it. Without saying a word, Wonder Woman presents herself as a powerful warrior to be reckoned with. It’s just a shame that the rest of the movie couldn’t live up to her epic debut...

#4: Hulk “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017)

Top 10 Greatest Hulk MCU Moments

Although Hulk is known for his massive strength, his greatest superpower is his ability to make epic entrances. Unfortunately, after 2015’s “Age of Ultron”, we didn’t see much of the big green guy in the MCU. But Hulk smashed his long hiatus with “Thor Ragnarok’s” first trailer. After Thor is placed in a gladiator match, Hulk busts into the arena to fight him. As Thor celebrates, Hulk prepares to wreck the thunder god. The green guy’s explosive entrance gave us an excellent comedy bit, but it also gave the heroes a chance to finish their fight from the original “Avengers”. No matter who lost the battle, Hulk had another winning entrance.

#3: The Joker “The Dark Knight” (2008)

From the moment the Joker was teased in “Batman Begins”, fans were clamoring to see this new version of the Clown Prince of Crime. However, many considered Heath Ledger to be an odd choice for the part. But once the “Dark Knight” trailer dropped, audiences fully embraced him. In a montage of scenes, Ledger’s Joker sounded menacing, looked amazing and dropped some insanely quotable lines. And to top it all off, he absolutely nailed the laugh. Although Ledger had the odds stacked against him before the teaser was unleashed, his appearance left every Batman fan with smiles and in anticipation.

#2: Spider-Man “Captain America: Civil War” (2016)

If “Captain America: Civil War” trailer just featured Marvel heroes we’d seen before, fighting each other, we would’ve been satisfied. But a famous hero from Queens took the preview to another level. Right before the trailer ends, Captain America gets his shield taken from him. A split second later, Spider-Man appears with the shield and says, “Hey everyone.” His casual introduction might be the most hilarious understatement of all time. Since Sony had the movie rights to Spider-Man, he couldn’t appear in any MCU films until backstage agreements were made, and his epic appearance here marked the dawn of an exciting new era for the beloved Web-head. Before we debut our top pick, here are some honorable mentions. Mewtwo “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” (2019) Venom “Spider-Man 3” (2007) Black Manta “Aquaman” (2018) Hawkeye Bane

#1: Han Solo & Chewbacca “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” (2015)

There are few cinematic duos as beloved as Han Solo and Chewbacca. Decades after appearing in “Return of the Jedi”, the two were set to make a comeback for “The Force Awakens”. After the teaser trailer showcased great action and visuals with the new characters, the screen cut to black. Harrison Ford’s voice cut through the darkness with two words. And then Chewie roared. Their sensational reveal gave us chills while filling us with anticipation and nostalgia. Although “Star Wars” was moving in a new direction, our old friends Han Solo and Chewbacca would be there to welcome us back to a universe we loved.
