Top 10 Crazy Pregnancy Reveals on TV Shows
VOICE OVER: Rebecca Brayton WRITTEN BY: Savannah Sher
These crazy pregnancy reveals on TV shows are what we live for!

It’s a... baby! Welcome to MsMojo and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Crazy Pregnancy Reveals on TV Shows.

For this list, we’re looking at the most memorable times that characters revealed that they were pregnant on TV shows. A spoiler warning is definitely in effect!

#10: Haley
“Modern Family” (2009-)

We’ve gotta say, we’re just happy this reveal didn’t come any sooner. “Modern Family” is full of tender moments – as well as hilarious ones – and this pregnancy reveal managed to be both. After a bumper car incident involving Haley trying to apply lipstick on the ride, some routine tests at the hospital tell her that she’s pregnant. When it comes time for the family Christmas photo, she and Dylan decide that it’s the right time to tell the entire family, but before their plan can work out Dylan gets stuck in the chimney, because of course he does. Claire does a good job hiding her true feelings about the situation, and that’s pretty much all we can expect of her in this moment.

#9: Callie
“Grey's Anatomy” (2005-)

After Callie and Arizona break up and Arizona leaves to go to Africa alone, Callie is left grieving for her relationship. She ends up having a one night stand with Mark, which results in her becoming pregnant. When Arizona comes back to town however, she professes her love for Callie and begs for another shot, saying that she knows their relationship can work if Callie would only forgive her. That’s when, during an elevator ride, Callie drops the bomb that she’s pregnant with Mark’s baby, which changes the landscape of their relationship forever.

#8: Miranda
“Sex and the City” (1998-2004)

Of the four women on “Sex and the City”, Mirands is the one who seemed least likely to get pregnant by mistake. But it happens anyway, despite Steve missing a testicle and her having a lazy ovary. Considering Charlotte is having difficulty conceiving a child of her own at the same time, telling her turns into a big conflict, especially since she plans to have an abortion. When she tells Steve in the following episode, she chooses about the worst moment possible, when they’re ordering ice cream together and haven’t even finished paying yet.

#7: Leslie
“Parks and Recreation” (2009-15)

Leslie and Ben from “Parks and Rec” are a fan favorite couple, so in the penultimate season of the show when Leslie finds out she’s pregnant, you know the reveal is going to be a sweet and humorous one. Ben delivers a big speech about how he’s ready to start a family, and Leslie is able to tell him that his wish is about to come true. While this moment is touching and brought a tear to our eyes, the moment in the following episode where they find out they’re having triplets made our jaws drop.

#6: Sweet Dee
“It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia” (2005-)

Most pregnancy reveals on TV shows are played for sentimentality or for shock value, but Dee’s pregnancy on “It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia” is 100% for laughs. Dee tells the group she’s pregnant and that one of them is the father, and they spend the rest of the episode trying to figure out which one of them could be the father, attempting to recall the events of a raucous Halloween party. Each one of them has their own version of the events of that evening, but because there was a lot of alcohol involved, no one has their story straight.

#5: Gina
“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (2013-)

Another show where comedy is the name of the game is “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”. One of the precinct's funniest characters has to be Gina, and in season four she got a major storyline of her own first getting hit by a bus and then revealing that she’s pregnant... after her coworkers did a bunch of sleuthing and figured it out on their own. Not only that, but the baby’s father is Boyle’s cousin Milton, played by Ryan Phillippe. Everything Gina does is hilarious, and being pregnant is definitely not an exception.

#4: Lily
“How I Met Your Mother” (2005-14)

Ted may technically be the main character on “How I Met Your Mother”, but from the very first episode onward, we were here to witness Lily and Marshall’s beautiful partnership. Season six was a tough one for them, with Marshall’s father dying suddenly, adding an unexpected gravitas to their storyline. They needed a boost of happiness and it came from them finding out that Lily was pregnant when she thought she had food poisoning, but then Marshall didn’t get sick after eating the exact same thing she did... so maybe they should have known something was up. Thankfully, they don’t have to disavow that soup place!

#3: Rory
“Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” (2016)

Sookie’s pregnancy reveal in the original series was hilarious and heartwarming, but fans weren’t expecting any similar reveals in the reboot. The “Gilmore Girls” revival picks up several years after the series left off when it wrapped up in 2007. Fans were split over whether they loved or hated these new episodes, but no one could have seen this ending coming. The very last scene of “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” entails Rory and Lorelai sitting together in the Stars Hollow gazebo, with Rory making the shocking announcement that she’s pregnant. Ending on this note was frustrating for fans because they didn’t get to see what happened next or even find out who the father was.

#2: Phoebe
“Friends” (1994-2004)

One of the best sitcom episodes of all time just so happens to contain one of the best pregnancy revelations of all time. Monica and Rachel are competing with Joey and Chandler in a series of bets that puts their apartment on the line. And while they’re exchanging trivia about one another, Phoebe is trying to get pregnant with her brother’s baby. She finally takes a pregnancy test and gets a positive result, and the rest of the gang forgets all their prior conflict in order to give her a big group hug and congratulate her. And sure, Rachel finding out she’s pregnant just before Monica and Chandler’s wedding is even more shocking, it's just not quite as touching.

Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.

Polly
“Riverdale” (2017-)

Piper
“Charmed” (1998-2006)

Hayley
“The Originals” (2013-18)

Haley
“One Tree Hill” (2003-12)

Mindy
“The Mindy Project” (2012-17)

#1: Jane
“Jane The Virgin” (2014-19)

Most TV shows make you invested in a character before they drop major news like a pregnancy on you, but “Jane The Virgin” kicked off the action with Jane finding out she’s expecting...despite the fact that she’s never had sex. This reveal is the plot device that the entire show is based on, and Jane decided to keep the baby, even though her artificial insemination was accidental and the baby doesn’t belong to her fiance. If it sounds complicated, that’s because it is, but it makes this entire show absolutely worth watching.
