Top 10 Cutest Anime Creatures

Top 10 Cutest Anime Creatures
VOICE OVER: Dan Paradis
Script Written by Briana Lawrence

Aw mom, can we keep em? Join http://www.WatchMojo.com as we count down our picks for the Top 10 Cutest Anime Creatures.

From adorable, to bizarre, to tear-jerkingly tragic, this list is dedicated to the cute critters from some popular series. We're only looking fictional creatures who could never exist in real life, so normal pets are out. We're also excluding robots and there will be no Pokemon on this list, but only because we've already tackled those cuties before.

Special thanks to our users Adam Artigas, Lucy DeHaan, Adela Archuleta, oshika, and Francis FNT for submitting the idea on our interactive suggestion tool at http://www.WatchMojo.comsuggest

#10: Wiz

“D.N. Angel” (2003)

Sometimes, a cat or dog won’t do as the family pet. Instead, you need a rabbit like creature with large feet, long ears, and gigantic, puppy dog eyes. This lovable creature is part of the Niwa family, a family where the first generation males are able to transform into the handsome Dark Mousy. Wiz serves as Dark Mousy’s familiar and has a nifty ability where he can sense him calling out to him no matter how far away he is and come to his aid. He can also disguise himself as Daisuke... which can cause some problems.

#9: Kuro

“Blue Exorcist” (2011)

Anything can happen when you stop worshipping your cat. They can paw at you. They can nip at your hand. They can transform into a giant demon... this last part may be a bit scary, but even two-tailed, demonic cats are easy to please. All it took to calm Kuro down was a pep talk from Shiro Fujimoto... and some catnip whine. As to be expected with any pet, learning about the death of his master sent Kuro into a rage. Fortunately, lead protagonist, Rin, was able to comfort him, and in return, Rin now has a new, loyal companion.

#8: Mokona Modoki

“Magic Knight Rayearth” (1994-5), “Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle” (2005-06) and “xxxHolic” (2006)

Old school CLAMP fans will recognize this rabbit-like creature from “Magic Knight Rayearth” where he produced necessary items using the large, red gem on his forehead, and was only capable of making an adorable “Puu” sound. Different Mokona also appear in two of CLAMP’s popular series, a white one for Tsubasa and a black one in xxxHolic. This isn’t just an attempt to fill the cute anime mascot quota, as these little fellows manage to make themselves useful throughout the series.

#7: Happy

“Fairy Tail” (2009-)

You know you’re in for something teeth-rottingly cute when a cat with wings hatches from an egg. All right, technically, Happy isn’t a cat, but he possesses the cat like attributes you’d expect from any feline: the ears, the paws, the long tail, the love for fish, and the dislike for dogs. However, unlike your average house cat, Happy is bright blue, can talk, and can take flight at high speeds. Amazingly enough, this doesn’t bother Natsu, who suffers from severe motion sickness. It must be that bond of friendship that keeps his stomach at ease.

#6: Calumon

“Digimon Tamers” (2001-02)

Alright, we said no Pokemon, we didn’t say anything about Digimon. There are a lot of digital monsters to choose from -- they are the champions, after all -- but when it comes to cute we had to give it to Calumon. If the large, green eyes don’t make your heart melt, the extending ears just might. To add to his cuteness factor, he’s always optimistic, even when he’s facing hardships. This makes him the perfect companion for the Tamers, and the perfect mascot for the series.

#5: Tony Tony Chopper

“One Piece” (1999-)

At first glance, people assume that this itty bitty reindeer was a pet for the Straw Hat Pirates. In reality, Chopper is the crew’s doctor. We’re fairly certain if more doctors were small, blue-nosed reindeer with big hats, we’d be more willing to make those regular check-ups. Even his vulgarities toward new humans is a bit endearing. Despite his naivety and occasional bursts of cowardly behavior, Chopper is loyal to his friends, proficient in battle, and always tries his best to help anyone in need.

#4: Ryo-Ohki

“Tenchi Muyo” franchise (1992-2014)

Filed under animal combinations we wish were real, Ryo-Ohki’s a cabbit -- a cross between a cat and a rabbit. There are other cute creatures in the Tenchi franchise, like the Koros of “Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar,” but Ryo-Ohki was our first Tenchi animal, and arguably, the most adorable, right down to her poofy tail and love for carrots. Her backstory and powers vary depending on what series she’s in, but a common theme is her transformation abilities, making her both functional and huggable.

#3: Kirara

“Inuyasha” (2000-04)

Even saying the name “Kirara” makes us go “awwwww.” The fluffy coat around her neck. The bright, orange eyes. The two tails. The surprising ability to transform into a huge beast with fire around her. The fact that she can get big enough for a group of people to ride on and fly through the air. Beyond all of her physically adorable qualities, she’s a fiercely loyal companion to Sango, and is a valuable member of the team of misfits in Inuyasha.

#2: Kyubey

“Puella Magi Madoka Magica” (2011)

“Cute” isn’t always a good thing. Kyubey possesses the kind of cute that gives us trust issues. It’s difficult to come to terms when this little guy has the look and voice of your typical magical girl companion. But then he ends up being the catalyst to everything bad going on in your life and masks it with the promise of granting wishes. We cannot stress this enough: do NOT sign his contract, even if it comes with an magical transformations and sweet powers…but all that said, he’s pretty darned cute.

Before we adopt our number one pick, let’s coo over these honorable mentions:

Kero
“Cardcaptor Sakura” (1998-2000)

Kuriboh
“Yu-Gi-Oh!” (2000-04)

Jibanyan
“Yo-kai Watch” (2014-)

Madara
“Natsume’s Book of Friends” Series (2008-)

Sadaharu
“Gintama” Series (2006-)

#1: Totoro

“My Neighbor Totoro” (1988)

Can you imagine having a cat-like creature so large that he could be your bed? If that’s too big for you, Totoro has two other sizes: a medium, blue Totoro, and a small, white Totoro. But come on, we know which Totoro comes to mind when we say his name. The other variations are cute, but we want that giant, gray Totoro, the forest spirit who lives in the camphor tree, uses a leaf as an umbrella, hops a ride on the cat bus, and makes an appearance in ''Toy Story 3''. He’s Studio Ghibli’s logo for a reason.

Do you agree with our list? Which anime creature would you want to have as a cuddly friend? For more adorable top tens published everyday, be sure to subscribe to WatchMojo.com.
