Top 10 Dancing with the Stars Theme Nights We Want to See
#10: Fantasy and Fairy Tales Night
“Dancing with the Stars” has celebrated some of Disney’s most beloved heroes and villains. However, we think there’s still a vast uncharted realm waiting to be explored— and it’s pretty magical. Picture a dazzling “Cinderella” inspired Waltz or a daring Paso Doble through an Enchanted Forest. We imagine “Arwen’s Song” from the “Lord of the Rings” movies would pair splendidly with a Rumba much like “Hedwig’s Theme” from “Harry Potter” did to a Viennese Waltz. And who knows, a fairy-tastic Foxtrot might just be waiting to be discovered! Combine an epic theme with gorgeous music and incredible costumes, and unleash your wildest imagination. We’re definitely up for an enchanting night where fairytales come alive!
#9: Movie Night
Fans of “DWTS’s” sister show in the U.K. eagerly anticipate a yearly movie-themed spectacle. They’ve had blockbuster routines like a Paso Doble set to the “Matrix” theme, an elegant American Smooth danced to “Singin’ in the Rain,” and even a Jive inspired by “Pulp Fiction.” We’ve had our own “Hollywood Night” and “Movie Nights” on “Dancing with the Stars” too but we’re sure there’s untapped potential waiting to be uncovered. Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas’s sci-fi-inspired Argentine Tango feels like just the beginning! And we’re ready for a sequel! With the show shot in Los Angeles, surely we’re primed for more movie magic on the dance floor— what could be more Hollywood than that?
#8: Inspirational Heroes Night
We always stock up on tissues whenever “Most Memorable Year Night” rolls around. So far, we’ve also seen similar heartfelt themes like “Best Year of My Life Night” in season 16 and “Stars’ Stories Week” in season 31, but we have an alternative title that’s bound to tug at your heartstrings even more. How about a night where the pairs honor the people who’ve profoundly shaped their lives? Picture a dance dedicated to a parent’s sacrifices, a mentor’s guidance, or a friend’s unwavering support during tough times. Most of us will have that special person and just envision expressing thanks through a dance on national television. The mere thought has us tearing up already!
#7: Guilty Pleasures Night
What’s your ultimate guilty pleasure song? You know, that tune you crank up and dance to when you’re sure no one’s watching. In the past, this season's theme week has been a banger, and we need more of that energy. We shook our hips along to Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke’s Samba. We reveled in the pure joy radiating from Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas’s Jive. And who didn’t leap off the sofa to join in with Team Gangnam Style? It’s the perfect excuse to jam out to those tunes we usually reserve for solo dance parties in our rooms. So, let’s bring back the fun and dance like nobody’s watching (or like everyone’s watching and loving it).
#6: Music Video Night
Remember in season 21 when the couples put their own unique touches on some of the most famous dances? We would so be up for another week like that! Or maybe they could give it a twist and recreate some of the most iconic music videos of all time? Picture a duo nailing Michael Jackson's “Thriller” or grooving to Janet's “Rhythm Nation.” Maybe someone strikes a pose, “Vogue”-style, just like Madonna! Imagine your dream team channeling your favorite music video moves; it's pure fire, right? Oh, and how about this? We bring in guest choreographers from behind those iconic videos to sprinkle their magic on the routines! Someone get us ABC on the phone, pronto!
#5: Fusion Night
What’s more fun than watching your favorite couple nail a dance style? Mastering two simultaneously, of course! Remember when Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani dazzled with a chic Cha-cha-cha and thrilling Tango fusion? Or when Shawn Johnson and Mark Ballas brought the heat with a fiery Paso Doble seamlessly blended with a terrific Tango? And who could overlook Normani and Val Chmerkovskiy’s captivating Argentine Tango & fantastic Foxtrot fusion? We’d love to see the 24-hour fusion challenge make a comeback, too. What dance combos make your fusion wishlist? A Foxtrot-Jive? A Rumba-Waltz, perhaps a Quickstep-Paso Doble? Let your imagination run wild! We just hope this theme is fused back into future seasons.
#4: Broadway Night
What could possibly lend itself better to a dance competition than the phenomenal soundtracks that have filled Broadway theaters for decades? “Musicals Week” is a fan-favorite on the U.K.’s “Strictly Come Dancing,” offering a peek into the theme’s potential magic on the U.S. dance floor. We’re picturing a sassy Charleston to “Hot Honey Rag” or a lightning-fast quickstep to “Guns & Ships.” Okay, just kidding about the second one, but how cool would that be?” Instead, how about a heartfelt waltz to “Burn?” Musicals like “West Side Story” and “Grease” offer ample ideas too. We’re ready to pull back the curtains and bring the magic of Broadway to the ballroom— jazz hands at the ready!
#3: Legends of Pop Night
Just imagining the task of narrowing down songs for this theme makes us feel light-headed. Would we prefer an Argentine Tango to Michael Jackson’s “Bad”? A Jazz routine to Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”? Or perhaps a Samba to Janet Jackson’s “All for You”? What if we honored Queen Bey with a captivating “Crazy in Love” Cha-cha-cha or a number as iconic as Zendaya's Samba to “Love on Top?”Absolute fire! Let’s kick it up a notch and transform it into a Divas night, celebrating the powerhouse women of the industry. And why stop at pop royalty? Let’s dive into rock royalty or more Motown Magic? Kings of Rock ‘n’ Roll, anyone? We’re practically dancing already!
#2: Iconic Duets Night
Remember when the show did a “Dynamic Duos Night” celebrating some of pop culture’s most renowned twosomes? Well, how about round two? Only this time, we dive into the jukebox of legendary musical pairs. We’re thinking a classy Viennese Waltz to Sonny and Cher’s “I Got You Babe” or a sensational Salsa to Bill Medley & Jennifer Warnes’ “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” How about an elegant Foxtrot to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ “Islands in the Stream,” or a dreamy Rumba to Lionel Richie and Diana Ross’s “Endless Love”? They say it takes two to Tango, and where better to prove that than in the “Dancing with the Stars” ballroom?

#1: Dancing through the Ages Night
Okay, picture this: couples time-traveling through dance! Each duo not only masters their usual routine but takes us back to its historical roots. Picture an 18th-century-themed Viennese Waltz or a jazzy Charleston from the roaring ’20s. Feel the passion of the Argentine Tango on the streets of 19th-century Buenos Aires or groove to the lively Jive in 1930s ballrooms. Remember when they had the couples dance through the decades? That was pretty cool, right? Well, buckle up because what we’re suggesting is an epic time travel adventure. Get ready to Waltz through time, Foxtrot across eras, and Tango through history— and hey, we might even learn a little something about our favorite dance styles, too!
